As a passionate admirer, I must say that while Messhof is widely recognized for the quirky 1v1 fencing series known as Niddhog, there’s another gem in his portfolio that stands out distinctly – Wheel World (formerly Ghost Bike). This isn’t just another 1v1 game; it’s an expansive open-world adventure centering around the thrill of cycling.
At the Annapurna Interactive Showcase, it was me (as a fan) who got a glimpse into the lives of Mark Essen and Kristy Norindr, the dynamic duo behind Messhof. In their own words, they highlighted the profound impact cycling has had on them. For Norindr, Wheel World stands out as their most ambitious endeavor, given its transition to 3D. Meanwhile, Essen shared his fondness for simply cruising around and discovering new places, even without engaging in the challenges that come with it.
Characters guide their character, Kat, as she traverses diverse landscapes on her bicycle, taking part in a variety of competitions. You have ample freedom to roam nearly everywhere and personalize your bike with multiple options. Although the primary objective is to retrieve all the Legendary components to save Wheel World, there are numerous hidden treasures to uncover and characters to converse with along the way.
This summer, the game titled “Wheel World” will be released for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and personal computers. At present, a demonstration version can be accessed on PC during the Steam Next Fest event.
