South Korean singer Wheesung has died at the age of 43.
On March 10th, as local news outlets reported, the musician known as Choi Whee-sung was discovered unconscious due to heart failure and subsequently confirmed deceased later that day.
The exact reason for his demise remains unknown so far. Seoul authorities mentioned that it took a considerable duration for his lifeless body to be found, suggesting no indications of suspicious activities at the location.
Wheesung’s management team, Tajoy Entertainment, released a statement confirming that the artist has passed away. He was discovered unresponsive due to a heart attack at his home, and was subsequently declared deceased.
The agency added that its fellow artists and staff were “in deep sorrow”.
In 2002, Wheesung launched his career with the successful R&B album “Like a Movie,” which rapidly earned him recognition due to his impressive and emotive singing voice.
Over the following years, his fame increased significantly as he expanded his musical reach, seamlessly combining R&B, hip-hop, and pop genres. He put out many chart-topping tunes, such as “With Me” from his 2003 album, It’s Real, along with a rendition of Craig David’s “Insomnia.
Additionally, Wheesung took on roles as both a mentor and vocal coach for popular K-pop artists, and even wrote songs specifically for their performances.
In 2021, he became widely known following his conviction on charges related to using propofol, an incident that ultimately led to the demise of Michael Jackson as well.
He was scheduled to perform alongside singer KCM in the south-eastern city of Daegu this weekend.
Tributes have been flooding in for the late star on social media from fellow celebrities and fans.
Rapper Verbal Jint posted a black square on Instagram with this message: “Each time we spent together was a privilege, and I’m thankful for it. You’ve tirelessly labored; may you find peace now, Wheesung.
Wheesung, feel free to join me in creating melodies at that spot. Rest assured, your sincere and radiant spirit will never be forgotten, shared Yoon Min-soo on his social media.
“Let’s meet again someday and sing together,” Yoon added.
