As a seasoned movie buff who has witnessed the rise and fall of many beloved franchises, I can confidently say that the anticipation for the upcoming “Jurassic World Rebirth” is reminiscent of the excitement surrounding the return of the dinosaurs in 1993’s “Jurassic Park.” Over the years, I’ve learned to decipher the patterns in the marketing strategies of these blockbuster films, and it seems that Universal Pictures has a knack for choosing strategic times to reveal their trailers.
Much like how velociraptors keenly catch the whiff of a goat, fans of “Jurassic Park” are buzzing with excitement for the initial glimpse at the upcoming sequel, titled “Jurassic World Rebirth“. Directed by Gareth Edwards, this new venture in dinosaur-centric cinema chaos is set to introduce a host of fresh characters, including Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali. Filming for “Rebirth” wrapped up a few months ago, and the movie is slated for release on July 2, 2025. So, when can we expect the trailer for “Rebirth“? Well, it’s only a matter of time, but exactly when will Jurassic Park enthusiasts get their first sneak peek at this new installment?
Surprisingly, clues about what lies ahead for this franchise might be hidden in its past. By examining the marketing trends of earlier Jurassic World films, we could uncover insights when the Jurassic World Rebirth trailer is released.
Examining The Fossils of Past Jurassic Trailers
During the Thanksgiving weekend in 2014, ten years ago, viewers were introduced to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Interestingly enough, another big release from 2015 that rebooted a cherished series also unveiled its first trailer on that same holiday weekend. It was none other than the debut of Jurassic World‘s opening teaser. With families gathering around to enjoy their turkey dinners, conversations naturally turned to Chris Pratt’s motorcycle ride with velociraptors. The holiday launchpad for Jurassic World was a huge success and ignited immediate excitement for the film.
During the Thanksgiving weekend in 2017, a fleeting (approximately six seconds) sneak peek of the second Jurassic World movie, titled Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, was unveiled. Although the full trailer for Fallen Kingdom wouldn’t be released until December 7, Thanksgiving was where fans caught their first glimpse of the upcoming Jurassic World film. Several months later, a lengthy trailer for Fallen Kingdom was presented during Super Bowl LII; this same sporting event would later announce the arrival of the first trailer for Jurassic World Dominion, just before Super Bowl LVI, with the trailer premiering during the live game itself.
Although the trailer for Dominion came out later than those of previous films, it was mainly because blockbusters in 2021 and 2022 had shortened marketing campaigns to avoid delays due to potential COVID-19 outbreaks affecting release dates. Moreover, Dominion continued the Jurassic World franchise’s tradition of releasing trailers around the Super Bowl. In fact, all three Jurassic World movies have a pattern: they typically unveil their first trailers during Thanksgiving or the Super Bowl. This has been the case for post-2001 Jurassic Park films.
When Will the Jurassic World: Rebirth Trailer Debut?
When do we expect the marketing campaign for “Jurassic World: Rebirth” to start? Since filming just concluded at the end of September 2024, it might be strategic to reveal a sneak peek during Super Bowl 2025. This is because the initial teaser for the original “Jurassic World” caused some controversy due to unfinished visual effects that upset viewers. Given the high expectations for “Rebirth” and the need to justify the franchise’s continued existence, releasing a trailer too early could potentially harm the film’s reputation. Furthermore, the Super Bowl continues to attract tens of millions of viewers, guaranteeing a wide audience for “Rebirth’s” first trailer.
If there’s anything that might prompt Universal Pictures to unveil the initial trailer for “Rebirth” closer to Thanksgiving, it’s likely due to a significant blockbuster they have in November. Universal’s “Wicked,” set to be one of the biggest films of the year and launching over the pre-Thanksgiving weekend, presents an excellent marketing opportunity. Connecting “Jurassic World Rebirth” with such an eagerly awaited production could be too attractive a proposition to resist. Furthermore, “Rebirth” and “Wicked” share the leading man, Jonathan Bailey, which seems almost serendipitous for “Rebirth’s” first trailer to premiere within this musical.
Currently, there are only two likely dates on the upcoming schedule where the first trailer for “Jurassic World Rebirth” might be released. Regardless of which one Universal selects, it indicates how significant this franchise is to the studio. Both Thanksgiving and the Super Bowl are high-profile events; releasing promotional material during either suggests great confidence. Given that the Jurassic Park series has earned a substantial amount for Universal over the past 31 years, their trust in “Rebirth” seems well-founded. The method by which the studio unveils the initial “Rebirth” footage to the public will surely reflect this.
For now, though, Jurassic Park fans will just have to settle for gazing at those first-look photos of Rebirth once more. These images won’t be our only look inside this new era of dinosaur cinema for long. Whether it premieres with Wicked over Thanksgiving or at 2025’s Super Bowl, a Jurassic World Rebirth trailer is imminent and preparing to make as big of a splash as previous inaugural Jurassic World trailers.
