Where Are the Gossip Girl Cast Members Now?

The actors from the Gossip Girl cast, including Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Leighton Meester, among others, have expanded their acting portfolios significantly since they first gained fame on the CW show.

For six seasons spanning from 2007 to 2012, this captivating series revolved around the elite residents of New York City’s Upper East Side, showcasing their opulent lives.

In our fascination with the grand New York City apartments, pricey fashion ensembles, and subtly intricate relationships, such as Serena and Dan’s, celebrities began to emerge from Tinseltown.

As a devoted fan of the original Gossip Girl series, it was quite a letdown to learn that most of the beloved cast members from the Noughties didn’t return for the 2021 reboot. Sadly, the revival only managed to run for two seasons before its abrupt cancellation.

After the shine of Gossip Girl diminished, where did they all end up? Let’s catch up on what the original cast has been doing since then.

Blake Lively

Lively portrayed the charismatic character Serena van der Woodsen in “Gossip Girl” and is one of the most recognized actors among the initial six cast members. After “Gossip Girl,” she has become a style icon at the Met Gala and created (and later discontinued) an online magazine and shopping platform called Preserve. Furthermore, she has given birth to three daughters with her husband, Ryan Reynolds, who is known for his role as Deadpool.

In addition to keeping a busy schedule, Lively graced the screen in movies such as “The Age of Adaline” (2015), hit film “The Shallows” (2016), “A Simple Favour” (2018) and “Lady Killer” (2023).

In 2024, the actress appeared in a movie version of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel “It Ends With Us.

What comes after this? Lively is set to appear in Another Simple Favor, the follow-up to the 2018 crime-thriller A Simple Favor, with Anna Kendrick by her side.

Leighton Meester

Leah Michele, known for playing the competitive queen bee and overachiever Blair Waldorf on the series, was frequently hailed as the standout star. Apart from being an accomplished actress, she also released her first album titled Heartstrings in 2014, modeled for brands like Vera Wang and Jimmy Choo, and is a dedicated philanthropist, having collaborated with Feeding America since 2017.

Meester is also married to The OC alum Adam Brody, with whom she has two children.

In terms of her acting journey, back in 2014, she starred alongside Robert Downey Jr. in “The Judge” and made her Broadway debut as Curly’s Wife in “Of Mice and Men”. More recently, she took on a leading part for two seasons in the ABC sitcom “Single Parents”.

In 2022, I had the privilege of starring as the lead in the Netflix adaptation of Sarah Alderson’s gripping psychological thriller, “The Weekend Away”. Fast forward to 2023, and you can catch me in another Netflix production titled “River Wild”.

What’s coming next for her? She is scheduled to appear as a guest star in the forthcoming second season of the Netflix comedy series titled “Nobody Wants This.

Michelle Trachtenberg

Trachtenberg played Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl, a rebellious wild child.

Initially, she gained recognition playing the lead role in Harriet the Spy (1996). Later, she was cast as Dawn Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (from 2000 to 2003). Throughout her career, she has been featured in numerous films such as Eurotrip (2004), Mysterious Skins (2004), and Ice Princess (2005).

Sparks reprised her role as Georgina in the Gossip Girl reboot.

It’s been reported that a star was found deceased in her New York City apartment in February 2025, at the age of 39. The NYPD has stated that their investigation into her death continues, although they don’t believe any criminal activity is involved. The medical examiner will eventually determine the cause of her passing.

Penn Badgley

Known for his relatable character portrayals, Badgley starred as Dan Humphrey, a resident of an unusually lavish and roomy loft in Brooklyn. In 2010, he landed another notable role in the comedy Easy A, where he was Emma Stone’s love interest, Todd. The following year, he appeared in the financial thriller drama Margin Call, for which the cast received an Independent Spirit Award. Badgley tied the knot with singer Domino Kirke in 2017.

Ever since my breakout role as Gossip Girl, I’ve found a new home on Netflix’s gripping psychological thriller series, “You.” In this show, I embody Joe, a complex and relentless romantic pursuer who is driven by an unhealthy obsession. This character will go to any length to secure the love he believes he deserves.

Next up? The fifth season of You is set to be released later in 2025.

Chace Crawford

In the series, Crawford portrayed Nate Archibald, who had a complex relationship history, being an intermittent love interest for both Blair and Serena.

Ever since his days on Gossip Girl, Crawford has maintained a consistent acting career. In 2011, he starred as a father-to-be alongside Anna Kendrick in What to Expect When You’re Expecting. He also made a guest appearance on Glee in 2014, and more recently, he landed a significant role in the Amazon Prime series The Boys, portraying an aquatic superhuman character named The Deep.

Next up? Crawford is set to reprise his role as The Deep in the upcoming fifth season of The Boys.

Ed Westwick

In a different wording: Chad Westwick portrayed Chuck Bass, the show’s notorious villain who surprisingly had a soft side. After that, he featured in the beloved teen romantic comedy “Chalet Girl” (2011), took on the role of Tybalt in the 2013 adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet,” and played salesman Vincent in the BBC Two series “White Gold” from 2017 to 2019.

In November 2017, three women accused Ed Westwick of rape and sexual assault. This led to a halt in filming for season two of White Gold, and his scenes for the BBC’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Ordeal by Innocence needed to be reshot. Westwick vehemently denied these accusations, and in July 2018, the Los Angeles District Attorney chose not to pursue a prosecution against him.

He came back during the second season of White Gold, as well as featuring in Enemy Lines (2020) and Me You Madness (2021).

He married Supergirl star Amy Jackson in 2024.

Coming next on his schedule, he will make an appearance in the new Sandokan production by Lux Vide, but as of now, the exact launch date remains undetermined.

Taylor Momsen

Momsen portrayed Jenny Humphrey, Dan Humphrey’s younger sister. She stopped being a main character at the end of the fourth season to concentrate on her musical endeavors. Apart from a cameo in the final episode of Gossip Girl, she didn’t appear in any more episodes.

Ever since then, Momsen serves as the full-time lead vocalist for the American rock band, The Pretty Reckless. This group has put out four studio albums so far and has toured with bands like Evanescence and Fall Out Boy. Their music can be heard in the movie Kick-Ass and TV series The Vampire Diaries.

The Pretty Reckless released their fourth studio album, Death by Rock and Roll, in February 2021.

Kelly Rutherford

Rutherford played Serena and Eric’s mother, Lily van der Woodsen, in Gossip Girl.

She subsequently featured in the series ‘Being Mary Jane’, ‘Dynasty’, and ‘Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists’. Additionally, she has taken leading roles in various movies produced by Lifetime.

Jessica Szohr

Following her farewell as Vanessa on Gossip Girl, Szohr has been featured in various ventures, such as Taylor Swift’s music video for “22” and the 2017 reboot of Twin Peaks.

She also appeared in Hulu drama The Orville in 2022.
