This coming Sunday (1st September), John Simm will reappear as Roy Grace, gracing our TV screens once more in one of ITV’s top-rated crime series titled “Grace.”
In the continuation of the series, Simm is reunited with the main cast once again, as the show delves deeper into Peter James’s collection of Grace novels, adapting an additional four stories from his archive in this season.
Apart from delving into gritty storylines and the turbulent private life of Grace, the series stands out for its breathtaking backdrops as well. Some of these striking settings include several well-known landmarks situated around the city of Brighton.
In line with the books, the series primarily unfolds in Brighton and Hove, with various scenes shot at multiple spots throughout the city and its vicinity over the years.
Delve into the details about the various spots that served as shooting venues for the series.
Where was Grace filmed?
Among the notable spots frequently featured in the series, none are more conspicuous than the Brighton Palace Pier. This iconic Grade II-listed amusement pier stands proudly in the heart of Brighton city center.
The pier continues to be the one actively utilized within the city, boasting an impressive filmography with roles in Carry On at Your Convenience, Quadrophenia, and Brighton Rock in its past productions.
Different parts of Brighton, such as Sydney Street, are featured in the series, with the cast being noticed by residents during filming for the first season.
In fact, during that period, The Argus newspaper reported that certain merchants in the area were requested to temporarily hide signs related to coronavirus regulations. This was because the series takes place prior to the pandemic, and the signs might have been distracting or anachronistic.
During season 4, filming was observed at various locations, including the Brighton Marina, the Royal Pavilion, Devil’s Dyke, Madeira Drive, and a countryside estate in Ovingdean.
Simultaneously, in the neighboring town of Hove, locations such as Ferndale Road and Silverdale Road were utilized during season 1 for filming. Similarly, Shoreham Port in Brighton was also used, with actor Craig Parkinson seen filming there.
Some other locations used include the suburb of Woodingdean and the East Sussex town Peacehaven.
Go ahead and grab the Peter James Roy Grace series, which includes “Dead Man’s Time,” “Want You Dead,” “You Are Dead,” and “Love You Dead – books that will be adapted for season 4. These thrilling reads are available on Amazon right now.
Grace season 4 will air on ITV1 and ITVX from 8pm on Sunday 1st September.
