Where is The Hardacres filmed? Location guide for Channel 5 drama

As a seasoned movie critic who has traversed the cinematic landscapes of both the Old and New Worlds, I must say that my interest was piqued by the tantalizing trailer for The Hardacres, Channel 5’s latest period drama. Hailing from the Emerald Isle rather than the Yorkshire Dales may raise a few eyebrows, but as Liam McMahon so eloquently put it, “the themes are universal.

5 Channel is treating us to a fresh, captivating period drama perfect for cozy autumn nights. “The Hardacres” will transport us through an intriguing tale of transformation, as we join the main family in their rise from humble beginnings at the fishing docks to establishing their own business empire.

The upcoming series introduces both returning and fresh characters, while transporting us to the year 1890s in Yorkshire.

According to its description, this series is a daring, courageous family drama with plenty of emotion. It puts an everyday family in an uncommon situation and delves into the timeless query: Is it possible for wealth to truly purchase genuine happiness?

Is it true that while The Hardacres’ storyline takes place in Yorkshire, the actual filming of the Channel 5 drama didn’t happen in Yorkshire itself? Here’s a breakdown of where they filmed this popular series instead.

Where is The Hardacres filmed

Despite being based in Yorkshire, the latest episodes of The Hardacres were actually shot in Dublin and Wicklow, Ireland.

The production of this series is a collaboration between Playground (All Creatures Great and Small), Screen Ireland, Red Berry Productions, and Newgrange Pictures.

As a movie enthusiast, I’d put it like this: “Indeed, Dublin feels like home to me, and I’m uniquely qualified to discuss this topic since I got the chance to return here for filming. The universal nature of the story means that it could have been filmed anywhere, be it Ireland or Yorkshire. In the 1890s, everyone was grappling with similar struggles, regardless of location.

Previously, I’ve completed tasks at home in Ireland, and I am aware that the team is known for their professionalism, and this was certainly evident during our shooting. The team members were outstanding, and the ambiance was exceptional, both familiar and comfortable. Being in such a setting boosts one’s personal creativity and makes it an excellent place to work.

The series was shot amidst the chilly winter season in Ireland, and here’s how Adam Little described his experience filming The Hardacres: “Dublin is simply the most incredible city on our planet. And let me tell you, Ireland as a whole? Incredible! What a remarkable place it is.

The first time I visited that place was during an audition with Director Rachel. I told her, “I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland, so could I have this role? It would allow me to accomplish two tasks at once.

Regarding the division of settings for The Hardacres, which encompassed the humble fishing docks and the grandeur of their manor house, set designer Derek Wallace explained: “During the 1800s, Dublin held the title as the second largest city in the British Empire. After London, it was Dublin that followed.

As a dedicated enthusiast, I can attest that our collection is quite unique, boasting both Georgian and Victorian elements, alongside an abundance of furniture. Given the complexities of Brexit, our team was challenged to scour Ireland for as many items as feasibly possible. To their credit, they exceeded all expectations, with nearly 90% of our finds sourced right here in Ireland.

The Hardacres begins on Channel 5 on Monday 7th October at 9pm.
