A new, gripping two-part documentary titled “The Amazon Review Killer” is set to air on Channel 4. This documentary delves into the haunting real-life tale of serial murderer, Todd Kohlhepp.
Tonight, I’m eagerly anticipating the twin episodes (January 6th) where we delve deep into the unsettling background of Kohlhepp, uncovering his psychiatric assessments that hinted at his ominous inclinations from the start.
The story continues with the second and concluding segment, where the investigation into a connected string of missing persons deepens, casting an even darker shadow, leading to the exposure of Kohlhepp’s horrific crimes.
Read on for more information about Todd Kohlhepp’s current whereabouts.
Who is Todd Kohlhepp?
1971 saw the birth of Todd Kohlhepp in Florida. In the year 1983, he moved to reside with his biological father and took up several local positions for work.
When Kohlhepp was 15 years old, he abducted and sexually violated a 14-year-old girl named Kristie Granado in Tempe, Arizona. To ensure she wouldn’t reveal the incident, he warned that he would harm her family if she did.
He was taken into custody for allegations involving kidnapping, sexual abuse, and endangering minors.
In the year 1987, he admitted to committing kidnapping and received a 15-year jail term, along with being added to the sex offender registry.
During his imprisonment, Kohlhepp pursued and completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Upon his release, he took up a job as a graphic designer.
Around the turn of the millennium, he managed to secure a real estate licence and established a company with around a dozen real estate agents.
What did Todd Kohlhepp do? Amazon Review Killer crimes explained
Back in November 2003, a motorcycle shop in Chesnee, South Carolina, was discovered with four individuals deceased, all of whom had been fatally shot.
13 years later, Kohlhepp told authorities he was responsible for the deaths.
Back in 2015, Kala Brown, who was then 30 years old, along with her partner Charles David Carver, disappeared following a visit to one of Kohlhepp’s properties.
On the property, Carver’s body was discovered, with Brown informing the authorities that Kohlhepp had fatally shot him in her presence.
For two months, Brown was kept captive in a storage unit on the premises, tethered to a wall. The authorities managed to find Brown by tracing her last active mobile phone location.
After the capture of Kohlhepp, additional remains were discovered on his land. These individuals were later identified as Johnny Joe Coxie and Meagan Leigh McCraw-Coxie, both of whom went missing in 2015.
Kohlhepp confessed to the 2003 shootings and the murders of Johnny and Meagan Coxie.
Back in 2017, I penned a missive to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, expressing my belief that there were additional victims yet undiscovered.
Back in May 2017, Kohlhepp admitted guilt across seven murder charges, two abduction cases, and one charge of sexual assault. As a result, he received seven life sentences, each served consecutively, with no chance for parole.
Why was Todd Kohlhepp called the Amazon Review Killer?
Back in May 2014, I found myself, as a casual Amazon browsing enthusiast, inexplicably drawn to leave unsettling comments on several items. Little did I know, the trail of eerie reviews I was unwittingly creating was connected to one Todd Kohlhepp.
A review of a knife, published by NBC News, stated: “I haven’t had the need to use it for harm yet, but when the time comes, I would trust a tool as reliable as this one.
Here’s another way to phrase it: “The locks are strong, enough for a shipping container. They might not completely halt intrusion, but they will certainly delay it until the would-be intruders become disinterested.
It is thought that Kohlhepp used the items he reviewed to kill his victims.
Where is Todd Kohlhepp now?
At the moment, Todd Kohlhepp is confined within the Broad River Correctional Facility in Columbia, where he’s currently serving seven consecutive life terms.
