2024’s Worlds are nearly upon us! The elite League of Legends teams will assemble in Europe to compete for the championship trophy.
It takes place in three different arenas across three different European capitals.
In the Riot Games Arena in Berlin, where many League of Legends fans know it as the LEC studio, will host the play-ins and Swiss rounds. Subsequently, the quarterfinals and semifinals will unfold at the Adidas Arena in Paris.
Finally, the climactic grand final will be in London at the O2 Arena.
2024’s World Tournament kicks off on September 25 during the Play-In phase, wrapping up by September 29. The Swiss Stage commences with a first round spanning from October 3 to October 7, and concludes from October 10 to October 13.
The quarter-finals take place from October 17 to 20, and the semi-finals on October 26 and 27.
The grand finals will be on November 2.
Is T1 going to Worlds 2024?
For many fans, the predominant question will be if defending champions T1 will be at Worlds 2024.
They have nothing to worry about: Team T1 has secured their place at the League of Legends World Championship. It was touch and go, as they barely clinched the fourth and final spot in the LCK. Nonetheless, they managed to outplay their longstanding rivals KT Rolster in a nerve-wracking five-game matchup.
This concludes a long summer of upsets and surprises to finalize the 20 attending teams.
In the League of Legends competition from South Korea, the teams are ranked as follows by seeding: Hanwha Life Esports, Gen.G, Dplus, and T1.
In China’s professional League of Legends league, known as the LPL, the participating teams include Bilibili Gaming, Top Esports, LNG Esports, and Weibo Gaming.
Currently, teams such as FlyQuest, Team Liquid, and 100 Thieves are advancing to the League Championship Series (LCS) in North America.
Rounding out the major regions, the hosting League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) brings G2 Esports, Fnatic and MAD Lions KOI.
Ultimately, six teams have joined from minor regions: PSG Talon and Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks (representing PCS), GAM Esports and Viking Esports (VCS), paiN Gaming (CBLoL) and Rainbow7 (LLA).
How is the League of Legends World Championship structured?
2024 will see League of Legends operating on update 14.18. This significant update is expected to alter the game’s strategic landscape, providing a refreshing change for the upcoming summer season, which has seen a degree of global staleness due to the culminating matches.
In simpler terms, the lesser-known areas and the teams ranked third in LCS (League of Legends Championship Series) and LEC (League of Legends European Championship) are going head-to-head in the play-in phase. These eight squads will face off in a series of Best-of-3 matches. The top four teams from this round will progress to the Swiss stage.
As a passionate esports enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that only sixteen teams are left in the competition. We’re now moving into the Swiss stage where these teams will face off in two rounds of Best-of-1 battles. However, the remaining matches in this Swiss stage will be intense Best-of-3 encounters!
Teams will progress from the Swiss stage when they reach three match wins. They are eliminated if they hit three match losses.
Following the Swiss round, we move on to the Elimination stage. This includes the quarter-final matches, semi-final matches, and the final showdown. In this format, each game is a ‘win-to-advance’ five-match series.
The victor of the grand finals will be the champions of Worlds 2024.
