Where to find a Tracktail Lizard in Monster Hunter Wilds

One of your early tasks in Monster Hunter Wilds involves figuring out a way to capture a Tracktail Lizard. This task becomes available after you successfully defeat the Alpha Doshaguma and rescue Kunafa, who resides in Windsong Village. To begin this quest, head to the command tent at the Base Camp in the Windward Plains, where you can obtain Dareel’s Research Report from the researcher stationed there.

The researcher provides some information on local wildlife, then hands you a capture net so you can catch and study these small creatures for your monster guidebook. You can also inspect a selected creature closely in the command tent. To start, however, you must locate a Tracktail Lizard first, and here’s where to find them.

Monster Hunter Wilds Tracktail Lizard location

The ideal location to encounter a Tracktail Lizard is in region 11 of the Windward Plains, where the rocks border the sand dunes. This region may be familiar to you as one of the Balahara’s possible battlegrounds, with some rocky outcrops it scales, and on which you can discover Wedge Beetles. Keep an eye out for a pair of these lizards scuttling across the sand nearby. If your search proves unsuccessful there, another option is to explore area 13 near the oasis.

It’s simple to identify Tracktail Lizards – they resemble regular lizards but have an extraordinarily long tail. If startled, they’ll elevate themselves similar to a meerkat. To grab one, navigate to the capture net on the top right of your essential items by pressing the left bumper on your controller and then use the right stick to select it.

To avoid scaring them away, gently press A or X on your controller. Then, hold LT to aim, similar to using your Hook Slinger. As you approach, wait for the aiming box’s border to turn orange and then press RT to shoot the net and capture the lizard. Afterward, return to Dareel to hand over the specimen.

As a token of appreciation for your help, the researcher will reward you with ten jars of honey and provide you with 50 Guild Points upon task completion.
