As a lifelong fan of romantic comedies and all things Christmas, I eagerly anticipate Richard Curtis’ new festive film That Christmas every December. However, nothing quite compares to the magic of Love Actually, a movie that has held a special place in my heart since its release in 2003.
This December, many people who are fond of Richard Curtis’ work will undoubtedly want to catch his latest holiday movie, “That Christmas.” However, it’s safe to say that after watching this new film, they’ll likely revisit one of his cherished past works – the romantic comedy “Love Actually.
2003’s romantic comedy classic is still adored by both rom-com enthusiasts and Christmas movie aficionados – a fact that surprises its director Curtis, who seldom revisits the film himself but views its enduring popularity as an “unusual stroke of good fortune”.
As a cinephile, I can’t help but sing praises for this movie that masterfully weaves together captivating love stories, featuring an illustrious ensemble of A-list actors like Bill Nighy, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Keira Knightley, and the late, great Alan Rickman.
Fiona Weir, a co-casting director, reminisced on choosing Rickman to play Harry for last year’s 20th anniversary movie. She told People that “Alan embodied the complex man who adores his wife and family, yet seems to have misplaced something in his life, leading him to be drawn towards another woman, all while still valuing the people he works with.
Regarding Rickman’s role, Weir mentioned that the production team believed he could add additional depth and intricacy to the character beyond what was initially written.
The movie abounds in memorable moments, ranging from the frequently spoofed scene involving Knightley, Andrew Lincoln, and the well-known signs, all the way to Bill Nighy’s rendition of Love Is All Around and Hugh Grant’s dance through 10 Downing Street.
This winter, the movie “Love Actually” is traveling with a live orchestra. But if you prefer watching it from home, here’s where you can catch it: Find out how to stream and watch “Love Actually” this year.
