Where was Wolf Hall filmed?

As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for historical dramas, I must say that the filming of “Wolf Hall” at Hampton Court Palace was nothing short of a dream come true. The immersion into the Tudor era, walking where Henry VIII, Jane Seymour, and Thomas Cromwell once tread, was an experience that will linger in my memory for years to come.


For the first time, the cast and crew also pitched up at Hampton Court Palace.

In my explanation, I mentioned that many places where Henry and his court once resided have long since vanished.

Our task was to design interior spaces within buildings that authentically replicated historical ambiance, evoking a sense of what daily life might have been like in those times. This endeavor held an extra layer of complexity, but we were fortunate enough to receive valuable support from the historians and curators at Hampton Court Palace, who graciously welcomed us for our initial collaboration.

Among all moments, the most captivating one for me undeniably was being given the opportunity to shoot our drama within the majestic Great Hall at Hampton Court. To my knowledge, we were the very first production to have been granted this privilege to film inside that historic room.

As a film enthusiast, stepping onto that very ground where Henry, Jane Seymour, and Thomas Cromwell once walked some five centuries ago was simply breathtaking. It’s said that these tapestries adorning the walls, after the Crown Jewels, are among England’s most prized possessions.
