In a new development, the potentially incestuous subplot between siblings Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) and Lochlan Ratliff (Sam Nivola), which has been slowly building up since earlier seasons, reaches a more intense level in The White Lotus season 3 episode 6.
In the continuation of Mike White’s witty dramatic series titled “Denials,” I find myself delving into events following the Full-Moon Party, an evening that led to Saxon and Lochlan exchanging a kiss during a drinking game with Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) and Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood).
The next day breaks, revealing the siblings lying bare in the same bed, weakened from excessive drinking and a mysterious drug supplied by Chloe, which they had not yet recognized.
Lochlan swears he can’t recall anything from the previous night, whereas Saxon has fragments of memories that seem disjointed – it appears, based on his understanding, that things took a very unusual turn at the very least.
At first, his memory suggested that Lochlan was intimate with Chloe, while he was in the same bed, masturbating nearby – a scenario that left him feeling intensely repulsed. However, what he doesn’t realize is that the actual truth is far more distressing.
It turns out that the significant event occurs later in the day, as Lochlan departs the resort to join his family – parents and sister, Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) – for a trip to a Buddhist temple.
Saxon decides on a more relaxed day at the White Lotus pool, meeting up again with Chloe and Chelsea. Here, he uncovers the exact details of the events that transpired the previous night.
In a straightforward manner, Chloe admitted that she and the Ratliff brothers were part of a three-person encounter. The brothers were mutually engaged, with Lochlan assisting Saxon in an intimate way, while also being involved with Chloe.
The disclosure leaves Saxon deeply disturbed, and he swiftly points fingers at the influence of substances and intoxication as the culprits clouding their judgment, but Chloe insists that the event transpired with mutual agreement.

Simultaneously, at a Buddhist temple, Lochlan chooses to spend the night with Piper, who is pondering moving to Thailand to delve deeper into the study of the religion.
In the tranquility of a meditative state, long-forgotten recollections from the previous evening resurfaced within me – vividly recalling an act I had committed towards my own brother, one that was deeply intimate in nature. Needless to say, this realization left me with an overwhelming sense of unease.
The current installment concludes without the Ratliff brothers reconciling, implying that they have yet to engage in challenging discussions, which may take place during our upcoming penultimate episode as we revisit the resort next week.
As a film enthusiast, I found myself pleasantly surprised by this unconventional narrative that’s sparking quite a debate among viewers. Last week, during an engaging chat with the New York Post, The White Lotus producer David Bernad defended its unique approach.
He mentioned that Mike is not only exceptionally intelligent but also suggested that those major plot twists serve a particular purpose beyond just shock value. Instead, they seem to be strategically employed within the storytelling process to convey a specific narrative and a broader thematic concept that Mike aims to express.
As the curtain falls on this season, the narrative takes an intriguing twist, serving a broader thematic concept that I find utterly captivating. The sibling saga within the family tale is my personal favorite, reaching its peak in a deeply fulfilling climax.
