White Lotus Star Parker Posey Waited 20 Years for Role

It may seem like Parker Posey was born to drawl, “Tsunami.”

However, despite her effortless portrayal of a character with a distinct North Carolina accent on “The White Lotus,” it’s interesting to note that the 56-year-old actress had to patiently wait for nearly two decades before she was offered the role written by Mike White.

Initially, she crossed paths with the creator of “The White Lotus” some time back at a social gathering. At this event, he playfully hinted about a potential collaboration in the future.

She mentioned on Late Night With Seth Meyers on March 12 that she had said something like, “Sure, go ahead and write something for me,” and then added, “I’d love to collaborate with you.” This exchange occurred multiple times over the past 20 years.

After such a wait, receiving the scripts for the third HBO series installment from Mike was well overdue.

She openly confessed her excitement, “I devoured every single episode – all eight of them – in one go, and it was quite the thrilling journey!

Without a doubt, the personalities and plotlines of season three, featuring actors such as Jason Isaacs, Walton Goggins, Aimee Lou Wood, Lisa, and Patrick Schwarzenegger, are shaping up to be just as captivating and hard-to-resist as previous seasons.

In a conversation with Seth Meyers, Parker shared his feelings about reading scripts featuring such a talented cast ensemble. He mentioned that it’s unusual yet captivating, as one feels like they already know these characters. Moreover, the anticipation arises because you’ve witnessed the first season and are eager for the second, knowing that no one can truly be trusted in the story written by this author.

The alumnus from the “Best in Show” event shared insights on how the distinctive accents they developed (partly influenced by watching numerous seasons of Bravo’s “Southern Charm”) have resonated with audiences in the South.

Parker shared that he was in Paris and attended the Valentino fashion show. While there, he encountered some individuals from North Carolina staying at the same hotel. They expressed their admiration, stating, ‘We’re from North Carolina, we must tell you, you’re doing fantastic work. We adore your accent – it’s spot-on!’

She added, “We’ve captured something. So that just feels so good.”

Before playing the role of Piper, the Ratliff’s daughter, Hook had already gained experience in horror and fantasy genres. She played Debbie Glatzel in “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It”, Juliette Fairmont in “First Kill”, and Elena Milak in “Monsterland”.

As a connoisseur of the silver screen, you might recognize her from the 2024 remake of “Cruel Intentions” as the cunning Caroline Merteuil.
