In a surprising twist, Season 3 wasn’t just filled with despair, but it managed to infuse humor into its most serene scenes. Actress Leslie Bibb shared that filming the lively Water Festival scene in Episode 4 was enjoyable, until events took a turn for the dramatic.
In Episode 4 of Season 3, the lively water festival scene in The White Lotus stood out as a welcome relief amidst the escalating tension. At this point, the storyline involving Timothy and Gaitok had reached a critical juncture, with Timothy planning to take Gaitok’s gun for a tragic act against his family and himself. Meanwhile, the narrative of Laurie, Jaclyn, and Kate revolved around their strained friendship. During “Hide or Seek,” they visited town and discovered a local water festival. Leslie Bibb shared her enthusiasm about filming that scene with Seth Meyers, but she hadn’t foreseen that things would reach such a climax.
Bibb verified that the festival truly took place, not just for show or their scene. She yearned to be part of it and plunged right into the heart of the action. “When we were there,” she reminisced, “‘The festival was genuinely happening in real-time, and everyone was excited, saying, ‘Let’s go!'” she said. “I was like, ‘No, I want to live it – I was acting like Daniel Day-Lewis – I said, ‘I’m going to truly experience it between when the camera is rolling and when it’s not.'” It turned out that the locals were incredibly enthusiastic with their water guns, and even the film crew got into the spirit.
‘It Was A Nightmare’
At our arrival, it felt as though we were surrounded by approximately 300 people armed with water guns, making for an extremely challenging situation, as Bibb put it. He noticed that some of the crew members were also equipped with water guns, relentlessly spraying us. Bibb exclaimed, “This is a nightmare!”
The Songkran festival served as a memorable event during our stay at the hotel, offering a refreshing change from the routine. It’s unclear whether Carrie Coon and Michelle Monaghan shared Bibb’s sentiments, but they certainly appeared frightened during that scene. Moreover, Bibb was worried about an impending health issue at the time.
She said, ‘Is that the bottled stuff?’ They replied, ‘Definitely, definitely, definitely, definitely, definitely,'” she continued. To which she responded, “‘It looks like we’re all coming down with something unpleasant. This isn’t going anywhere good.’ “Another instance had a significant impact on co-star Walton Goggins, who has a deep fear of snakes. He confessed that handling all those snakes in Episode 2, ‘Special Treatments,’ was a terrifying ordeal for him.
If only I could have acted as cool as I think I am – you know, I consider myself quite the cool guy. But instead, when he said he had a snakebite, it was more like a dramatic reaction from me: ‘Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness!’
Although there was stress involved, Bibb found the process of filming their water festival scene enjoyable when looking back on it. She commented, “It seemed like Carrie’s last day, so there was a celebratory atmosphere, and everyone was playful.” After wrapping up the beach scenes, they returned to Bangkok, and then Sammy arrived in Bangkok later on.
