Who are Dear Alice? Meet the band members starring in Made in Korea

As I delve into the vibrant lives of these young and talented individuals, I am struck by their resilience, passion, and unwavering determination. Olly, a graduate from Laine Theatre Arts and Bird College, has been performing since he could remember, even being a chorister for five years! His journey reminds me of the old saying, “Chorus boy to leading man,” and I have no doubt that he will make his family proud through Dear Alice.

Unveiling an unprecedented glimpse into the world of K-pop training, we present “Made in Korea: The K-Pop Journey”.

Through teamwork among Moon&Back Media, SM Entertainment, and SM & Kakao Entertainment America, the series “Made in Korea” showcases Dexter, Blaise, Olly, James, and Reese – a promising boy band as they face trials to determine if they can conquer the international music scene.

Over a span of 100 days, these boys are set to undergo SME’s comprehensive K-pop training program. This rigorous process includes dance routines, vocal instruction, acting classes, and guidance on life skills, all while receiving critiques from renowned K-pop expert Hee Jun Yoon.

However, which boys are traveling to Korea with the intention of creating the band Dear Alice? Let’s delve deeper into the cast of Made in Korea: The K-Pop Experience.

Since his early years, Dexter has been passionately engaged in singing and dancing. From the tender age of 14 until he turned 18, he honed his skills at the D&B Academy of Performing Arts. More recently, he completed a three-year diploma course there, which he has now successfully graduated from.

A self-described “loud, charismatic, energetic and friendly” person, Dexter’s dream had always been to be in a pop group, and it was almost a no-brainer for him to apply for the band.

He shared that he submitted a recording for an audition, which happened while he was performing in a pantomime in Newcastle. Surprisingly, he was invited to audition in-person in London, and now he’s here.

As for how his family reacted to the news of him joining the band, “they were thrilled”!

“In my role as a performer, not everything is set in stone, but I’m thrilled that I was given the chance to take part,” he expressed.

“Since I was a child, I’ve always aspired for this. My mother, who used to be a big fan of boy bands, was extremely happy about it.”

Among his peers, it’s Blaise who learned about musical theater at the BRIT School. He believes this education significantly contributed to shaping him into the person he is now.

Following graduation from the BRIT School, Blaise secured an opportunity for advanced training at Urdang Academy, focusing on dance and musical theater. There, he became a member of various dance ensembles and honed his skills across diverse dance genres.

Blaise “never thought” he’d be in a boy band, and hadn’t ever considered it to be a possibility.

He stated that when he received the audition and as things progressed further and he met the other actors, it started feeling tangible. And just like that, we found ourselves in Korea within three months!

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Musical Theatre from both Laine Theatre Arts and Bird College, Olly aspires to honor his family by participating in the production of Dear Alice.

For as long as he can remember, Olly has been performing, and he was also a chorister for five years during his earlier life!

Regarding his motivation behind applying for the show and the band, Olly explained: “Having completed my studies at a performing arts university, I had recently parted ways. At that time, I was also modeling, working as an event staff member, and participating in numerous events across London, along with some television work.”

Initially, I doubted if the audition was genuine, but my doubts vanished, and I decided to give it a try. Guess what? Here I am!

James Sharp

As a movie enthusiast, I’m sure many of you on social media are familiar with James, the member of the band who stands out among the crowd. With his twin brother, he has amassed a massive following exceeding 7 million, thanks to their page SHARPTWINS.

They often post dance videos together, and aside from TikTok, James has made appearances on numerous TV programs and films such as MTV Cribs, Blue Peter, and Everyone’s Talking About Jamie.

As a connoisseur of dance and melodies, it felt perfectly logical for James to join the band. He shared, “The selection process was quite extensive, involving numerous gifted individuals, and fortunately, I was among the five who were chosen.”

Reese Carter

Prior to working with Dear Alice, Reese gained experience in the performing arts as a cruise ship entertainer. Since childhood, Reese’s enthusiasm for theater and dance has been unwavering.

Reese, a person known for his infectious enthusiasm and ability to brighten any space with optimism, was recognized as the playful or trickster-like character within their social circle.

“I think I’m the mischievous one,” he said in an interview ahead of the series.

“I lean more towards singing rather than dancing, and I’d be happy to admit that I act as a unifier for our group. Sometimes, this role requires me to ensure everyone is awake and ready for practice on time, even if it means waking up the entire team early in the morning!”

After spending a year dancing aboard a cruise ship, an opportunity for an audition presented itself. To himself, it seemed like a great idea: “Might as well give it a try!”

Made in Korea: The K-Pop Experience airs on BBC One and iPlayer on Saturday 17th August at 5:15pm.
