Who are Scott Mills and Sam Vaughan? Meet Celebrity Race Across the World 2024 contestants

As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for reality TV and a soft spot for celebrity journeys, I am thrilled to witness Scott Mills and his husband Sam embarking on the adventure of a lifetime in Celebrity Race Across the World. Their 12,500 km journey from Belém, Brazil, to Frutillar, Chile, promises an intriguing blend of camaraderie, competition, and cultural immersion.

The exciting worldwide journey known as “The Celebrity Race Across the World” is set to begin anew, as a fresh batch of celebrities embark on the ultimate adventure and tackle the greatest challenge they’ve ever faced.

In this event, popular radio personality Scott Mills, along with his partner (who was then his fiancé, now husband), Sam, are participating. Their journey starts in Belém, northern Brazil, and they aim to complete a 12,500 km race that ends in Frutillar, southern Chile. Throughout this adventure, they must make it to the finish line.

In 2024, “Celebrity Race Around the Globe” will be the next installment of the show, following the civilian series that came back earlier this year. In this civilian edition, the best friends Alfie and Owen emerged victorious, pocketing a £20,000 prize.

Competing alongside personalities such as Kelly Brook, Jeff Brazier, and Kola Bokinni, let’s delve into who Scott Mills is and his partner, Sam. Here’s the lowdown on them both.

Relationship: Husbands

From: South Hampton and south Wales

Jobs: Radio DJ and audio producer

Scott Mills primarily functions as a radio broadcaster and show host, most famously for his tenure at BBC Radio 1 between 2004 and 2022. These days, listeners can catch his programs on BBC Radio 2.

In the race, he’s running alongside his partner Sam Vaughan, who works as both an audio producer and a freelancer for branded content. They first met at a Welsh radio event back in 2017.

In an interview with TopMob magazine, Scott expressed that “the intense heat and high humidity in Brazil, which reached almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit, made it extremely challenging for me as I was perpetually soaked.”

“It was like a reverse honeymoon because we got married in Spain shortly after we got back.”

Why did Scott and Sam want to take part in Celebrity Race Across the World?

Initially, when Scott and Sam were invited to participate in The Celebrity Race Across the World, Sam referred to it as an “instant yes” or “obviously a good idea”.

In this new interview with the BBC, he described it as a chance to escape the hustle of everyday life and explore unseen destinations.

As a film enthusiast, I can assure you that my cinematic journey might lead me to destinations I’d typically avoid on a map. It’s not usually ‘Let’s go here!’ when I’m plotting out my travels, but the allure of unique stories and visuals often pulls me off the beaten path.

“Since Scott enjoys perusing travel magazines, he’ll be the one to arrange our vacations, as he enjoys discovering new destinations. However, these trips might be unique experiences we won’t repeat, making each moment all the more special as we explore different corners of the world together.”

Scott, too, desired to put his phone aside temporarily. “I won’t have the chance to do this again,” he remarked.

The global celebrity race titled “Race Around the World” is set to debut on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9:00 PM on Wednesday, 14th August 2024.
