Who Is Agatha's Son? Nicholas Scratch's Marvel History Explained

As a seasoned gamer and comic enthusiast with years of immersion into the magical realms of Marvel Universe, I can confidently say that the intricate web of lore surrounding Nicholas Scratch and Agatha Harkness has me on the edge of my seat! The third episode of Marvel’s Agatha All Along has opened up a Pandora’s box filled with tantalizing possibilities.

In the third installment of Marvel’s series “Agatha All Along“, it hints at the character of Nicholas Scratch, Agatha Harkness’ son, and raises speculation about whether she truly gave him up in pursuit of power over the Darkhold. The show leaves us wondering if she actually sacrificed him, or perhaps traded him to a formidable, evil entity, or if his destiny could be something different altogether. Interestingly, this brings us back to “WandaVision“, where there was some debate about whether her pet bunny, Senor Scratchy, might be symbolic of Nicholas Scratch.

In the comic books, Scratch hails from New Salem, a clandestine location in Colorado, which served as a refuge for witches and warlocks who managed to evade the Salem Witch Trials. The identity of his father remains unknown, sparking various speculations among fans, ranging from demons, Mephisto, to an intriguing theory suggesting that Agatha simply summoned him into existence at one point. This latter notion could make for a captivating plot twist on the show, as it would invite comparisons with Wanda, given its potential implications.

Following Wanda’s departure from New Salem, Nicholas assumed leadership and harbored resentment towards his mother’s choice to depart from their secluded magical realm. Consequently, he dispatched a group of New Salem witches on a mission to locate Agatha, with the intention of bringing her to trial and executing her for treason. Given the echoes of history — it’s quite ironic that Salem witches, who were once persecuted themselves, would be eager about such an ordeal.

In the comic books, Agatha previously looked after Franklin Richards, a member of the Fantastic Four. This connection led to confrontations between the heroes and witches. However, it’s unlikely that these characters will appear in the series “Agatha All Along”. This could mean that Agatha might face new dangers, although she does have her own coven for support.

Indeed, it’s worth considering if the mysterious figure known as “Teen” could potentially be none other than Nicholas Scratch himself.

Over time, his fixation on punishing his mother led New Salem to turn against him, resulting in his exile to the Dark Realm. However, he continued to reappear frequently, often clashing with the Fantastic Four and/or Agatha. In one instance, he took control over Franklin Richards for a period of time, which could be echoed in ‘WandaVision’ if the “Teen” turns out to be benevolent but eventually gets possessed by Scratch. This scenario is plausible given that many of his recent stories revolve around Scratch concealing his true identity to further his plans. He even went as far as pretending to be Agatha Harkness to win people over, and impersonating Doctor Strange to manipulate the Fantastic Four.

In due course, Scratch seized control over Centerville, serving as its mayor and encountering a confrontation with Salem’s Seven, Sons of the Serpent, Hellcat, The Avengers, and the Thunderbolts within the town. Following his ousting from power and expulsion of his groups from Centerville, he lingered, working for Dormammu and squabbling with Hellcat temporarily. Ultimately, he was sent to Hell (courtesy of the Richards’ offspring), where he began collaborating with Mephisto.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but ponder if Mephisto, with all the tantalizing theories swirling around WandaVision, might just be teaming up with our beloved characters. It wouldn’t be such a far-fetched guess, given the subtle hints about this character. Just a few short weeks until we uncover the truth!
