Who is Jonathan Bailey playing in Heartstopper?
Confirmation has come in that Jonathan Bailey is set to portray Jack Maddox, a renowned classicist who’s popular on Instagram and whom Charlie, played by Joe Locke, harbors affection for.
To put it simply, Bailey appears to have a smaller role in the upcoming series, more like a guest appearance rather than a recurring one. However, his presence is still thrilling as it adds an interesting twist to the storyline, which closely follows the original comic books.
It seems that Jack Maddox is modeled after the initial Henry Maddox character from the Heartstopper minicomic by Lauren James.
Excitedly sharing that Bailey, Hayley Atwell, and Eddie Marsan have joined us for season 3! Alice Oseman expressed, “Working with Hayley, Eddie, and Jonathan’s remarkable talents alongside our established cast was a pleasure. I can hardly wait for Heartstopper fans to get acquainted with these fresh characters.
How exactly did Bailey get involved in the project? During a chat with Variety at the Met Gala in May, Bailey expressed: “Much like many others, I watched the first season and thought it was an incredible, beautiful present to so many. If only I’d had it while growing up.
In conversation, I shared that I was fortunate enough to have a mutual acquaintance with the show’s producer, Patrick Walters. I expressed my eagerness to contribute in any way possible and be a part of their narrative, if they would allow it.
Indeed, Bailey has gained recognition through his performances in Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers, Broadchurch, and W1A. Additionally, he’s slated to appear in the Wicked film adaptation and Jurassic World: Rebirth as well.
Discussing filming alongside Bailey in the upcoming season, Kit Connor shared with HuffPost: “It was quite a unique day, having Johnny on set. I believe we all felt a bit apprehensive about that day arriving –it was my first encounter with him. He’s simply delightful [and] indeed, he’s a stunning individual.
Joe Locke also mentioned: “I encountered Johnny a few years back, and ever since our first encounter, he expressed his desire to join the show. For quite some time, they’ve been trying to arrange it discreetly, so it’s gratifying that they eventually found a spot for him.
Is there a possibility that Charlie’s feelings for Jack might complicate his connection with Nick, or could it merely bring back some nostalgic charm reminiscent of the initial comic books? Time will tell.
