As a huge fan of musical theatre, I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming Les Misérables Arena Spectacular tour featuring Michael Ball as Javert and Bonnie Langford as Madame Thénardier! Having grown up with the original West End production, their performances in this iconic musical hold a special place in my heart.
The UK arena tour of the popular musical “Les Misérables” by Boublil and Schonberg begins in September. This production will be traveling to a nearby venue for your enjoyment.
The original production of the show will continue running at London’s Sondheim Theatre. However, a concert version of the production is planned to tour internationally over the next year, visiting 15 countries and regions such as the UK, Italy, Denmark, Australia, Japan, and South Korea.
Just like a play put on by Cameron Mackintosh, this event boasts an impressive lineup. With a grand total of 110 actors, and no less than a 65-piece orchestra to accompany them.
A few actors have been made public so far, such as renowned stage performers Alfie Boe and Michael Ball, in addition to Bonnie Langford, who was a beloved companion on Doctor Who.

I’ve come across Michael Ball before – he’s a multi-talented OBE honoree, an accomplished singer, presenter, and theatre actor. He made his mark on the West End stage with a memorable role as Marius in Les Misérables. Since then, I’ve seen him bring Jean Valjean and Javert to life, and even take on Sweeney Todd and Edna Turnblad in Hairspray.
Fun fact: In 1992, Ball represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest and finished second!

What is the role of Madame Thénardier in this context? She is the cunning and greedy spouse of Thénardier, the public house owner. She is also the parent of Éponine and a harsh caretaker for Cosette.

The Les Misérables Arena Spectacular is essentially a more extensive presentation of the extremely popular Les Misérables Staged Concert. In this production, a large ensemble of theater artists bring the entire musical score to life, performing every note from beginning to end.
In a sung-through musical like Les Mis, every line is delivered through song without interruption, making it particularly suitable for adaptation into a concert setting.
In contrast, The Arena Spectacular is being redesigned uniquely for arena settings. Featuring over 110 performers and a 65-piece orchestra, this updated production promises an even more impressive and unforgettable experience.
