Who Is Teen in Agatha All Along? Our Best Theories

As a seasoned comic book enthusiast who has seen more than a few twists and turns in the Marvel Universe, I must say that the theories surrounding Teen in Agatha All Along are as intriguing as they are varied. From the gender-swapped Agatha to Hiram Shaw from the past, and even Wanda herself – these possibilities have certainly piqued my interest!

Before the premiere of “Agatha All Along” on Disney+, one character had already sparked theories among fans. This enigmatic teenager, known as Joe Lock’s Mysterious Teen, has puzzled viewers since his debut due to his lack of a known name outside of Agatha referring to him as “Teen.” Additionally, the M-shaped sigil on his lips hints at his identity remaining a secret. As we move into the third episode of the series, these theories are becoming even more intriguing. The show’s recent mention of Mephisto has fueled fan speculation further, following the numerous Mephisto theories from “WandaVision.” However, there are several other characters that the Mysterious Teen might ultimately turn out to be, and we’ll explore our top theory suggestions.

As we delve into this new adventure, let’s recall that the Mephisto speculations in WandaVision were not conclusive, so it’s wise to maintain an open mind about our Witches’ Road journey. It’s possible none of these theories will provide the solution, and showrunner Jac Schaeffer hinted that we might need to explore other signs to uncover Teen’s true identity. However, a significant part of Marvel shows lies in solving mysteries before they are revealed, so let’s examine some intriguing theories about who Teen actually is. Some of these ideas may seem far-fetched, but they could lead to an unexpected twist!

1. Billy Kaplan/Wiccan

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts on an intriguing theory that’s been making waves in our community. It’s all about Billy, the young character we see now, who seems to be none other than an older reincarnation of Billy Maximoff, Wanda’s son from another reality. You might recall that at the end of “WandaVision,” when Wanda finally freed Westview from the Hex, she erased her own created reality and, unfortunately, her son from existence in this one. The theory gaining traction is that Billy has returned to us in some form, perhaps as a reincarnation. This idea certainly has legs, especially given how some of the promotional materials seem to be hinting at it subtly, like the Teen character poster that’s been circulating. It’s an exciting time for fans as we eagerly await more clues and confirmation!

2. Nicholas Scratch

In the ongoing debate about characters in “Agatha All Along”, fans are speculating that the character referred to as ‘Teen’ could potentially be Agatha’s son, Nicholas. This theory gains traction due to two key points: firstly, the mention of Nicholas Scratch in the initial episode and secondly, Agatha being revealed to have a son this week. In comic books, Nicholas grows up to become the leader of the New Salem community after Agatha leaves, making him her rival. A significant clue supporting this theory is Teen’s intense fascination with Agatha. This young man shows an unusually high level of fandom towards her, has delved deep into Agatha-related lore, and sought her out specifically to follow the Road. It’s possible that he’s Nicholas, trying to find a way back to his mother, and perhaps, for him, the journey is as much about reconnecting with this lost part of himself as it is about the potential rewards at the end of the Road.

3. Mephisto

Haven’t you ever pondered over the possibility of our Mephisto theory? Absolutely, we have one! The third episode introduced Mephisto into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, courtesy of a mention by Jennifer Kale. However, it’s important to remember the old saying: “Speak of the devil and he shall appear.” Or perhaps he’s been lurking in the background all along, unnoticed. The enigmatic teen character could be Mephisto in disguise. That unusual symbol might serve as a means to mislead Agatha, planting seeds of doubt about his true identity, and thus, keeping her from suspecting who he really is.

4. AU Agatha Harkness

For a brief moment, let’s entertain a peculiar idea (since we’re in the Marvel universe). We know that this is a multiverse and different variations of characters exist in different realities within it. Could it be possible that the enigmatic Teen character is from one of those other realities, and even more intriguingly, could be another version of Agatha herself? This isn’t an entirely far-fetched concept, considering we’ve seen gender-swapped characters in the multiverse like Sylvie from Loki. The key question would be why they’re here now and what their ultimate goal is. Perhaps their only way home is by walking the Road. From a broader narrative standpoint, it comes down to how this Teen being an alternate Agatha fits into the larger storyline. At this stage in the plot, it seems unlikely that this would be our most compelling theory, but we’ll have to wait and see as the story unfolds.

5. Hiram Shaw

In a surprising twist, we find that in the comics, Hiram Shaw served as Earth’s chief sorcerer and reverend in Salem during 1692. He took on this role when his predecessor was expelled for practicing witchcraft. Suspecting Abigail Harkness to be a witch, Hiram barred his son from associating with her. However, against his father’s wishes, the son disobeyed. When Hiram received a warning from Dormammu that harm would come to his family, he rejected Dormammu’s protection. Tragically, Hiram’s wife, Sarah Shaw, met her end. Blaming Abigail for this loss, Hiram sentenced her to death on charges of witchcraft. In the end, events culminated with Abigail revealing her magical powers and incinerating the townspeople after Hiram had them pursue her.

Regarding “Agatha All Along“, it’s plausible that the show might draw from certain aspects of Hiram’s story, given Agatha’s past in Salem 1693. One such aspect could be Hiram’s prowess in creating illusions. Perhaps “Teen” is not real and he is actually Hiram, reappearing after centuries with a grudge against Agatha, especially as she finds herself vulnerable at this moment in time.

6. Wanda

Another pretty out there theory, but we’ve seen this one pop up a few times. What if Teen is Wanda? It could be a matter of Teen being a variant but could also be something slightly more sinister. We’ve been told Wanda died, but we’ve never actually seen her body — yes, yes, I know we saw the body in episode 1 but we never saw her face. What if Agatha is still very much stuck in Wanda’s spell and is merely manifesting as this mysterious Teen as a way to check to see if it’s holding? Certainly could explain why Teen’s fingers were black in episode 1 and more than that would provide an incredible twist as well as a way to bring back the character without necessarily involving Elizabeth Olsen (for now).

7. Ralph Boner

Okay, we don’t really mean Ralph Boner, but remember how Ralph Boner turned out to be no one important? What if the mystery of Teen is setting viewers up for the same sort of situation? With all of the theories and hype about the mystery surrounding the character, it would be an epic twist and a crazy nod to WandaVision as well. We’re not sure Marvel would want to play that game again, but the MCU does have that history of characters not being as important as we think they are so it’s a very real possibility that we need to consider. Also? Teen being no one important might be the reason for that sigil. If he’s no one important, then his real identity and backstory doesn’t really matter that much at all.

Agatha All Along is now streaming on Disney+. New episodes arrive each Wednesday.
