Who is Ulf White in House of the Dragon and who plays him?

As a huge fan of House of the Dragon, I’m absolutely thrilled to see Ulf White finally getting his moment in the sun! In the latest episode, we saw this underestimated character claim a massive dragon in the tunnels beneath Dragonstone as Rhaenyra searched for Targaryen bastards to aid her in the war against the Greens.

As a dedicated fan of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series and a recent viewer of House of the Dragon, I can’t help but feel both excited and apprehensive about the potential spoilers that lie ahead. Having read “Fire & Blood,” I’ve gained an intimate understanding of the Targaryen dynasty’s intricacies and the fateful events that transpired during their reign.

As House of the Dragon season 2 nears its end, Ulf White is finally getting his time to shine!

In the most recent installment of the show, an anxious character asserted the presence of a colossal dragon hidden in the Dragonstone caves as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) commenced her quest to discover and enlist the aid of Targaryen illegitimate offspring for her conflict against the Greens.

Ulf has made great progress since we first met him in a tavern, boasting about his questionable parentage as the supposed son of Baelon the Brave and half-brother of Daemon Targaryen (portrayed by Matt Smith).

So, here’s everything you need to know about the character, and actor Tom Bennett!

Who is Ulf White in House of the Dragon?

Ulf, like Hugh Hammer and Nettles, is among the bastards of Valyrian descent residing at Dragonstone, including himself. The show portrays Ulf as a heavy drinker and illiterate.

As a movie buff, I watched in episode 3 how he unequivocally sided with the Blacks. He even called Jacaerys Velaryon, played by Harry Collett, his nephew and the true claimant to the Iron Throne. But when Aegon walked into the tavern, I held my breath, fearing for his life and making him abruptly fall silent.

In episode 7, I watched as he responded to Rhaenyra’s plea for dragonseeds, making his way to Dragonstone with dreams of taming a dragon. However, the reality hit hard when I saw a contender meet a gruesome end at the hands of Vermithor. Despite this setback, I persevered and ventured into the labyrinthine tunnels beneath Dragonstone, where I came face-to-face with the petrifying Silverwing.

Anticipating being fatalically scorched, Ulf shrinks back in fear – yet astonishingly, he manages to secure Silverwing by the episode’s end. In the closing moments of episode 7, Ulf triumphantly rides Silverwing over King’s Landing.

Who is Ulf White’s dragon in House of the Dragon?

Ulf asserts that he owns the female dragon, named Silverwing. Before Ulf, Queen Alysanne Targaryen, the queen consort and sister of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, had been its rider.

Who plays Ulf White in House of the Dragon?

British actor Tom Bennett portrays Ulf White in House of the Dragon.

Bennett has appeared in various roles across British TV, including Christopher in PhoneShop.

He has made appearances in Ricky Gervais’s After Life and the comedy series Life on the Road, as well as Mascots and Family Tree directed by Christopher Guest.

I’ve had the opportunity to perform onstage as well, taking on the role of Del Boy in “Only Fools and Horses The Musical” at The Theatre Royal Haymarket.

From now on, beware of potential book spoilers for House of the Dragon as they could influence upcoming episode content.

What happens to Ulf White in the book Fire & Blood?

In the “Dance of Dragons,” Ulf initially serves as a foot soldier, or common soldier, before being chosen by Jacaerys Velaryon to ride the dragon, Silverwing, during the Battle of the Gullet.

Later, Ulf is granted a knighthood and, along with Hugh Hammer, is given lands on Driftmark.

Instead, as Ulf and Hugh go to protect Tumbleton, they unexpectedly switch sides and join the Greens. In the following Second Battle of Tumbleton, Hugh unfortunately meets his end, but Ulf, in a state of intoxication, miraculously makes it through.

Later on, he confesses his desire to seize the Iron Throne personally. However, he is ultimately poisoned by Ser Hobert Hightower.
