The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently grappling with a conundrum surrounding the Avengers team. The anticipation for the films “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” kicked off in July of 2024, following the confirmations of Robert Downey Jr.’s return and the reunion with the Russo Brothers at San Diego Comic-Con. The only thing that seems to be missing now is who will make up the Avengers in these upcoming movies. Since “Captain America: Civil War“, we’ve only seen one official Avengers team, the one depicted at the start of “Avengers: Endgame“. However, since that movie, there has been no suggestion that the Avengers continue to exist in any new MCU productions.
In a different rendition, let me share that there are numerous heroes suitable for the squad in Doomsday and Secret Wars. This compilation will focus on the top 10 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) characters who would excel as a team to tackle the multiversal mysteries that future Avengers films might present. These individuals are the cream of the crop, and their combined skills would make for an extraordinary Avengers team.
Captain America
In “Avengers: Endgame,” Steve Rogers handed his shield to Sam Wilson, signifying the passing of the Captain America torch. This was further explored in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” where we saw Sam Wilson ultimately embrace his new role. Coming up next is “Captain America: Brave New World,” a movie dedicated to Sam Wilson’s solo adventure, and it seems only fitting that he should also assume the leadership role within the Avengers as Captain America. With a captivating character arc that has seen him evolve both personally and as a hero, Sam is more than prepared for his new responsibilities.
In simpler terms, Captain America (Steve Rogers) is currently the pivotal figure within the Avengers group. His role symbolizes the peak of team excellence, and it appears Sam Wilson is prepared to assume this position. He’s been trained by the best and demonstrated his ability to lead effectively. It would be thrilling to witness fully developed Sam Wilson as Captain America guiding the Avengers in combat during upcoming films, proving that Steve made a wise decision entrusting him with the title of the world’s top superhero. Notably, Sam Wilson has already been confirmed for “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” making this transition seem inevitable.
Captain Marvel
As a die-hard movie buff, I can’t help but marvel at the might of Captain Marvel within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). When she first graced our screens, she was hyped up as the most formidable hero in the MCU, and boy, did she live up to that billing! Nick Fury had a secret weapon, and it was none other than this cosmic powerhouse.
Her arrival on Earth didn’t just shake things up; it played a pivotal role in the demise of Thanos in Endgame. Post-Snap, her duties as an Avenger involved patrolling the cosmos, maintaining peace – a task only a hero of immense power could handle.
When an alternate past Thanos invaded our present timeline, Captain Marvel showed off her might, tearing through his spaceship and squaring off against the Mad Titan one-on-one. In that moment, she solidified her status as everything she was promised to be.
Despite her second film, “The Marvels,” being the first MCU flop for some, this only strengthens the argument for her joining the team. The character of Captain Marvel needs to regain the fandom’s favor, and what better way than having her serve as the Avengers’ formidable weapon in the fight against evil. Although Brie Larson has been vague about Captain Marvel’s return in “Avengers: Doomsday,” the team will undeniably require its strongest heavyweights at the forefront, making Captain Marvel an essential choice.
Doctor Strange
In the epic saga of Avengers: Infinity War, I, Doctor Strange, demonstrated my indispensable role as an Avenger. With my formidable powers, battle-hardened wisdom, and quick intellect, I provided the team with a strategic edge. When Iron Man seemed to have lost all hope, I offered a glimmer of it, and showed that I could hold my own against Thanos if necessary.
As a member of the Avengers, I bring magic to the table – an unpredictable, yet incredibly potent force that has shown its might throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Moreover, with my understanding of the Multiverse, I offer unique insights and abilities that will undoubtedly prove invaluable in future battles such as Doomsday and Secret Wars.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal of Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has become quite beloved by fans. The movie Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness grossed over a billion dollars, and the character of Doctor Strange is highly favored among MCU enthusiasts. Cumberbatch has mentioned his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, so there’s a lot of excitement surrounding him as part of the team. To be honest, it seems incomplete to imagine the Avengers without Doctor Strange now.
Hulk
Fans of the Hulk character from Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have expressed disappointment due to the portrayal of Hulk in films like “Infinity War” and “Endgame.” The evolution of his character, particularly the introduction of Professor Hulk, has been a contentious topic for many who felt he wasn’t utilized effectively. They wished to see the Green Goliath unleashed against Thanos, the one who defeated him in the MCU, but this didn’t happen as expected. Additionally, fans were displeased with his role in “She-Hulk,” perceiving it as more negative portrayal of the Hulk. However, introducing the Hulk to the Avengers team for reasons beyond fan dissatisfaction is a possibility in future films.
One significant aspect of this development is that it allows for further progression of the Hulk’s character trajectory. Displaying a controlled Hulk in combat against formidable adversaries would be both satisfying to fans and fitting, given his strength. Moreover, the Hulk remains one of the Avengers with immense power, which is why he often faces new villains. If they manage to overpower the Hulk, they pose a threat to the entire team. However, it’s high time we witness the Hulk in full destructive mode. The comics have struck a balance between a tactical Hulk and a combative Hulk, and the MCU needs to follow suit. The upcoming films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, can capitalize on this new interpretation of the Hulk — one who is equally adept in the lab, planning strategies, and smashing enemies — thereby confirming that the direction his character has taken is indeed appropriate.
Thor
Essentially, films like “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” provide an opportunity for Marvel Studios to rectify some choices that fans have found less than satisfactory. Given this, it’s logical to anticipate the return of Thor in the upcoming “Avengers” movies. After all, Thor was a central character in one of the least appreciated films post-“Endgame,” namely “Thor: Love and Thunder.” It’s high time that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) get to witness the Thor that comic book readers have enjoyed. The most effective way to achieve this is by having him take a prominent role alongside the Avengers in “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.
There’s no question about Thor joining the team; his power and combat prowess make him an obvious choice. For those still uncertain about why Thor belongs in the movies, watching Infinity War and Endgame again would provide ample reasons. Thor experienced one of the most compelling character transformations in these films and was a standout performer in every action scene. He even came close to defeating Thanos with all the Infinity Stones, and since then, he’s only grown stronger. If there’s anyone capable of portraying Thor at his finest, it’s the Russo Brothers. The Avengers would greatly benefit from having a warrior like Thor on their side.
War Machine
Over the past few years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Endgame, War Machine has had quite a unique journey. He made an appearance in Falcon and the Winter Soldier and was later unveiled as a Skrull imposter at some point during Secret Invasion. Prior to Endgame, War Machine served as Tony Stark’s right-hand man, but since then he’s often been on the receiving end of punches. It’s high time for a change and to let him shine as the Avenger he was always destined to be.
James Rhodes, a seasoned military veteran, boasts extensive expertise in an armor engineered by Stark. His suit is meticulously designed to accentuate his skills. Having been held captive by the Skrulls for quite some time, one might expect a significant grudge from him. War Machine feels compelled to demonstrate his abilities and prove himself worthy among the elite. Over the past few years, he’s felt disregarded, and it’s high time that changes. Moreover, it wouldn’t feel right if there wasn’t someone donning Stark-made armor on the Avengers team.
Star-Lord
The tale of Peter Quill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe stands out as exceptional. Initially, he was depicted as a solitary figure and something of a jester, striving for everyone to address him by his lofty title, Star-Lord. The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films primarily focused on him accepting his identity and ultimately demonstrating that he deserved the recognition he had long sought. In ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Three,’ we saw him on Earth, caring for his grandfather, leaving fans eagerly anticipating “Star-Lord will return.” Now is the perfect moment to fulfill this promise, and the most fitting place for this resolution is alongside the Avengers.
I’ve spent a substantial amount of time traversing the cosmos, facing numerous perils alongside the Guardians and bravely venturing alone. My unique background equips me perfectly for the Avengers. Moreover, I yearn to prove my worth to the Avengers beyond being the emotionally-driven individual who surrendered the Infinity Gauntlet to Thanos. I’ve more than demonstrated my merit for this esteemed team.
Ms. Marvel
Among all the actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Iman Vellani undeniably embodies the most passionate Marvel fan. Her portrayal of Ms. Marvel brilliantly captures an enthusiastic fangirl, and she never fails to captivate when she appears on screen. In fact, her affection for Ms. Marvel is so profound that she collaborated with others in writing the recent Ms. Marvel series. It’s hard to imagine any other actress or character more deserving of a spot on the Avengers team in upcoming films like “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.” There are numerous compelling reasons to include her version of Ms. Marvel on the team.
There’s still plenty of Miss Marvel’s story to be unfolded in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While she’s been established as a mutant, there’s speculation that she might also be an Inhuman. Will her powers evolve further, incorporating both comic-book-accurate abilities and the energy powers she already possesses? These questions remain unanswered, but it seems likely that upcoming Avengers movies may provide some answers.
Miss Marvel is a crucial addition to the Avengers, symbolizing the emergence of a new era of superheroes. Despite her relatively inexperienced status compared to some of her peers, she brings an infectious enthusiasm for being a superhero that perfectly suits her role as the fresh face in the team. Her youthful exuberance makes her an ideal new recruit for the Avengers.
Black Widow
Without a doubt, the Avengers could greatly benefit from having Black Widow as a member. Natasha Romanov was instrumental to the team, eventually assuming leadership roles post-Snap. Despite some questionable character development in later MCU phases, we were still blessed with a fantastic second Black Widow in Yelena Belova, expertly portrayed by Florence Pugh. Each of her appearances has been met with adoration from fans. With Yelena seemingly poised to be the centerpiece of Thunderbolts, it’s only fitting that she also earns a prominent place within the main MCU cast – making her an Avenger would be a fantastic way to achieve this.
*Thunderbolts is a team of anti-heroes in the Marvel Comics universe, which will be adapted into a movie in the MCU.
In the latest portrayal of Black Widow, we find an exceptional Avenger. She’s as formidable in combat as her former self, honed by years in the clandestine black ops field. Her unwavering commitment to victory is evident, even if it means making tough choices and putting herself on the line. This self-sacrificing spirit underscores her heroic potential. The Avengers require a hero who’s ready for any challenge, one who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Yelena Bolova embodies this spirit, which makes her an ideal fit for the MCU’s elite squad in upcoming movies like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
She-Hulk
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law often receives criticism that it doesn’t warrant. Those who claim the series strays from comic accuracy clearly haven’t delved into She-Hulk’s comics. As for those asserting that her ability to control the Hulk within herself was a pivotal moment, they must not have watched the show, as it portrayed her losing control of herself. The lessons she learned in the series make her an ideal fit for the Avengers.
She-Hulk is an additional force to reckon with in a squad already packed with mighty individuals, which works out well for them. Not only does she possess immense strength, but she’s also one of the funniest characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and that’s crucial. She’s still learning the ropes of being a hero, making her an ideal candidate to join forces with the Avengers. Furthermore, imagine the thrilling action sequences we could witness if she and the Hulk teamed up against their adversaries! With her superpowers, distinct viewpoint on the superhero realm, and the humor typical of the MCU, She-Hulk is a perfect fit for the Avengers. It’s high time the world recognizes this fact.
