Who was Henry Delaney? Deadpool & Wolverine tribute explained

As a movie critic with a soft spot for heartfelt tributes and personal stories, I was deeply moved by the touching dedication to Henry Delaney during the end credits of Deadpool & Wolverine. The bond between Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) on screen resonated with me, but it was this poignant tribute that truly left an emotional impact.

Fans are feeling touched following the on-screen memorials for Henry Delaney in the current Deadpool and Wolverine movies.

In this film featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Deadpool teams up with Wolverine to confront a mutual foe. The outcome surprises everyone as they embark on a surprisingly heartwarming adventure together.

During the ending credits, there are several heartfelt dedications made. One of them is a simple message: “In memory of Henry Delaney.”

Here’s everything you need to know.

Who was Henry Delaney?

Henry Delaney was the son of Rob Delaney, the actor who plays Peter in the Deadpool franchise.

Henry died at the age of two in 2018 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Delaney has often spoken about his son, and wrote his book A Heart That Works after Henry’s death.

Lately, Delaney has expressed his enthusiasm for discussing his son Henry, sharing on Today With Hoda & Jenna, “I can’t get enough of talking about him. He’s my child, and I’m his father.”

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but mention the beloved characters who hold a special place in my heart. Among them is this particular character who holds the affections of his family – his brothers and mother included. Their deep connection to him makes it impossible for me not to bring him up in conversation.

Delaney shared about his son Henry: “He passed away from a brain tumor in 2018, which was diagnosed around his first birthday. Henry left us at the start of that year, leaving behind memories of the kindest and most amazing little boy.”

Based on my personal experience and observations, I have noticed that it is common for parents to praise their children, stating that they are all special in their own ways. However, Henry was exceptional, not just in the eyes of his family but also to those around him. His unique charm and humor left a lasting impression on everyone.

Despite having a healthy frontal lobe, he was still incredibly witty, intelligent, charismatic, attractive, flirtatious, and playful. His inability to speak led him to learn sign language due to having a tracheostomy.

Since 2014, Delaney has resided in London. He added that this decision was influenced, in part, by the presence of his son there as well.

In an interview on Desert Island Discs, he shared this story: Henry’s younger brother was born in the very same room where Henry passed away, which used to be our family living room. When we vacated the house, I inquired from the landlord if it was true.

I’ve had some deep connections to certain places throughout my life, and one of them is this very house. I’ve shared many memories here with my family – both joyful ones and painful ones. My oldest son was born in this very room where I now stand, and unfortunately, my other son passed away here when he was an elderly man at the age of 81. If by some chance, this place is ever put up for sale, I implore you to let me know first. The thought of spending my twilight years in this house, where I’ve experienced such a rich tapestry of life, brings me immense comfort and peace. It’s not just a house, it’s a part of my history, and I can’t imagine ending my days anywhere else.

He added: “London has helped us and taken care of us in many ways.”
