As I delve deeper into the fascinating world of celebrity family dynamics, I can’t help but be captivated by the unique choices these individuals make when it comes to their names and identities. It’s clear that each one has their own compelling story, and I find myself in awe of their courage to break free from traditional norms and forge their own paths.
Alexa PenaVega was ready for a big time fresh start with Carlos PenaVega.
The actor who played Spy Kids, married to a member of Big Time Rush band since 2014, recently revealed the touching motive behind joining their previous surnames, Pena and Vega together.
Alexa revealed to Francesca Amiker of TopMob News that she goes by the name Vega. Her husband’s family is of Dominican and Spanish descent, with the surname traditionally being Peña; however, in an unusual twist, it is spelled as ‘Pena’ on his side.
Upon getting married, it became clear to us that we desired a fresh beginning,” she explained. “Our ambition was to initiate a new chapter or venture. Consequently, we adopted the name PenaVegas.
Alexa and Carlos, who are not only co-producers but also stars in the upcoming holiday movie “Get Him Back for Christmas“, were about to embark on a thrilling journey as they began their life together.
She explained, “To be honest, we weren’t sure if merging our surnames was an option at all. However, with a sense of adventure, we walked into the courthouse and started filling out the necessary paperwork. They asked us who would take whose last name and what the situation was.
She mentioned that they both glanced at each other and jotted it down, expressing uncertainty since there was no hyphen or any other indicator, only a single word.
After getting the seal of approval, the couple – parents of Ocean (6), Kingston (5), and Rio (3) – made numerous changes such as updating their social security and passports. What they didn’t anticipate was having to instruct people on how to correctly pronounce their newly combined name.
She pronounced it as “‘Pay-nuh-Vay-guh,'” she clarified. “People often mispronounce it as ‘Penya-Vay-guh,’ but that’s incorrect. It’s actually ‘Pay-nuh-Vay-guh.’
Not only did Alexa and Carlos merge their surnames, but they also blended their lives in another significant way. Together, they established Good for You Entertainment, the production company responsible for their upcoming movie debuting on Dec 14 on Great American Family and at the Great American Family Christmas Festival taking place at The Northwell Park at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y.
In our tight-knit collaboration, Carlos and I complement each other exceptionally well. He consistently brings out my best self, while I strive to do the same for him. Now, let me clarify, being a couple does introduce its own set of challenges on set, days when we may find ourselves at odds. Yet, our commitment to professionalism ensures that we navigate through these moments gracefully. Fortunately, despite occasional friction, we’ve never encountered a disagreement so profound that it hinders our ability to work effectively together.
Regarding what makes PenaVegas successful, both professionally and personally? According to Alexa, it’s all about effective communication.
She clarified, ‘We’re open communicators.’ She often advises, ‘When starting a relationship, ensure both parties are participating in the same journey.’ If one is pursuing a separate path, then they won’t reach their destination together. It’s essential to have a shared objective; otherwise, the relationship may disintegrate because you’ll be moving in opposite directions.
