In a few weeks, the game Elden Ring: Nightreign will be released, offering both single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes for teams of up to three players. However, unfortunately, you can’t enjoy the cooperative experience with only two players. But why is this the case?
In a conversation with IGN, the game director, Junya Ishizaki, mentioned that the team at From Software unintentionally missed considering this specific option during the development process. He expressed his apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Ishizaki clarified that Nightreign is designed to be enjoyed either by individuals or small teams of three. Given that From Software has focused extensively on perfecting the gameplay for single-player and three-player cooperative modes, they did not prioritize a two-player co-op option.
Ishizaki stated, “We focused so much on that particular area, we may have unintentionally ignored or underappreciated the importance of pairs.
Ishizaki mentioned they’re thinking about and exploring the possibility of adding a two-player cooperative mode in an upcoming update. At this point, it’s not set in stone yet.
During the interview, Ishizaki shared his transition as game director for Nightreign, under the guidance of Hidetaka Miyazaki, and he disclosed the counsel Miyazaki imparted to him.
