As a lifelong Dragon Ball fan with more than a few grey hairs to show for it, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia as Dragon Ball Daima approaches its premiere. The latest trailer has certainly given us plenty to chew on, and the potential inclusion of Super Saiyan 4 is sending my inner child into overdrive!
As a diehard Dragon Ball fan, I can hardly contain my excitement with just a few weeks left till the premiere of Dragon Ball Daima! Even though there are still many unanswered questions about this new anime series, the latest trailer has already exceeded our expectations. Unlike Dragon Ball Super, it doesn’t seem to be a sequel, but it’s blending storylines from various spin-offs like Dragon Ball Heroes and Dragon Ball GT.
As a dedicated Dragon Ball fan, I remember when Super Saiyan 4 made its debut – it was during the Dragon Ball GT series and marked an advanced stage of Super Saiyan. Unlike the usual way, which required intense emotional turmoil or rigorous training, Goku unlocked this transformation with assistance from the Kaioshins. In the wake of a new menacing threat called Baby, Son’s tail was returned by the Kais, unleashing the full power of the Saiyans within him. With Earth serving as our moon, Goku initially transformed into a Golden Oozaru before gaining control over his form and ultimately evolving into the powerful Super Saiyan 4 that we recognize today.
Super Saiyan 4 In Daima?
It is speculated, though not yet confirmed, that the Super Saiyan 4 form or a similar version of it could appear in the upcoming series, “Daima.” This series takes place between the demise of Kid Buu and the start of “Dragon Ball Super,” where Mini Goku and his companions are on a mission to restore their original bodies. A secret plot is causing Goku to search for the dragon balls with the intention of returning to normal. The narrative seems reminiscent of “Dragon Ball’s Grand Tour,” albeit without Trunks and Pan joining Goku’s journey. Many anime enthusiasts suspect that “Daima” might be Akira Toriyama’s way of adding his unique touch to the franchise’s spin-offs, effectively making them his own creations.
Apart from elements from Dragon Ball GT, Daima also shares significant characteristics with Dragon Ball Heroes. Originally introduced as an arcade game in Japan, Heroes later got manga and anime adaptations, enabling a wide range of elements from the shonen series to be included in its multiverse-spanning, time-travel adventures. The Demon Realm was a crucial part of the spin-off’s narrative, often providing the Z-Fighters with both allies to work together with and enemies to battle against. As suggested by recent previews, Daima is now integrating the underworld realm into its plot, with Goku making a trip to this location that played a significant role in Heroes.
How Would Super Saiyan 4 Work Today?
In the storyline, Goku and his team are shifting into younger versions, which might mean the Saiyan members of the Z-Fighters will grow their tails again. Given the timeline, they probably won’t access powers like Super Saiyan God, Ultra Instinct, or Ultra Ego. However, there’s a possibility that Super Saiyan 4 could be within reach due to this body transformation anomaly. If this transformation occurs in this spin-off, the fact it wasn’t mentioned in Dragon Ball Super because they can’t transform into Super Saiyan 4 without tails in their adult forms might serve as an unexpected plot twist.
The newest Dragon Ball Daima trailer shows Goku transforming into a Super Saiyan, even though he’s smaller in size. This transformation is another impressive aspect of the ape-like character, the Z-Fighter. It’s worth noting that while Toriyama didn’t create Dragon Ball GT, he has previously shared artwork of the unique Super Saiyan 4 form, suggesting that he was aware of its existence within the franchise. Introducing this form could be a way for the manga artist to revisit aspects of the series that he hadn’t explored before.
There’s still plenty of time for discussions about which aspects of the franchise will be featured in the upcoming series titled Dragon Ball Daima, set to air its first episode on October 11th. At this point, it remains unclear if Daima will get a second season or if we can expect a return of Dragon Ball Super after the next installment in the anime series. However, fans can look forward to more Z-Fighter tales as the manga version of Dragon Ball Super, created by artist Toyotaro, will resume publishing. This means that there’s exciting content on the horizon for both the anime and comic book readers.
