Why Hannah Einbinder’s Mom Slammed The Bear After 2024 Emmys Win

As a seasoned entertainment journalist with years of covering red carpets, I must say, the Emmy Awards never fail to bring out the best (and sometimes the worst) in Hollywood. The energy at the event is always electric, and this year was no exception.

Live from 2024 Emmys night, it’s Laraine Newman‘s hot take about The Bear!

Currently, the former Saturday Night Live cast member isn’t alone in questioning if the current holder of the Outstanding Comedy Series category title, which has also won an impressive 10 Emmys this year (though the awards ceremony isn’t finished yet!), truly qualifies as a comedy show.

As a devoted admirer, I must say that even the charming host, Eugene Levy, along with his talented son Dan Levy, brought their own brand of humor to the Emmy proceedings. However, they couldn’t help but poke fun at the occasional lack of laughter-inducing moments from the FX show.

During their opening speech, the former Schitt’s Creek cast member mentioned that The Bear, with its 23 Emmy nominations tonight, has made history as the most nominated comedy series ever. However, instead of making a joke about whether The Bear truly fits the comedy genre, they expressed affection for the show.

“But,” he added, “in the true spirit of The Bear, we will not be making any jokes.”

Interestingly, only Newman has a daughter, Hannah Einbinder, who was in contention with The Bear in several comedy categories. (In an interview with Interview magazine back in May, Einbinder humorously noted that nepotism is “ever-present” and “here to stay.”)

In the 2024 Emmy Awards, Jean Smart indeed took home the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award for her role in ‘Hacks’. However, by that time, Newman had already been actively posting on X for quite some duration. (You can find the complete list of winners from the 2024 Emmys here.)

At exactly 3:25 p.m. Pacific Time, right on the red carpet, she expressed that each thought about The Bear being nominated for comedy in the Emmys was causing a sense of unease or discomfort similar to an ulcer developing.

After Liza Colón-Zayas of “The Bear” was named the winner for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy at 5:27 p.m., Newman shared another post.

She wrote, “F–K. THE. BEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Reader, she did not use dashes.

Unfortunately, Newman, it seems Colón-Zayas is likely to win again next year as well, in the emotionally charged Tina-focused episode that stood out among the debatable and sometimes less funny moments of The Bear’s third season, which debuted over the summer.

During the September 15th broadcast, I was thrilled to witness Jeremy Allen White claiming the title of Outstanding Lead Actor, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach snatched the prize for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Moreover, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jon Bernthal added another feather to their caps, winning as guest actress and actor respectively at the Creative Arts Emmys last weekend, all for their exceptional performances in season two’s remarkable “Fishes” episode.

At the 2024 Emmy Awards, not just Newman’s moment was captured, but also numerous genuine moments that transpired during the event that you might have overlooked.

The Morning Show actress was thrilled to wave to her adoring fans.

After triumphing with the Emmy for Outstanding Reality Competition Program, the team behind “Traitors” did not feel like they had betrayed anyone at all.

Jeremy Allen White, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach understand that a cast who earn an Emmy award together tend to remain connected.

The Saturday Night Live costars were feeling giddy.

The Reba alums proved that they’ve got chemistry on and off the screen.

The What We Do In the Shadows actor had a special fang-shaped surprise for the crowds.

The Traitors host knows its important to always stay hydrated.

Jesse and Jane proved that even stars are excited to run into each other.
