Why Hilary Duff’s Daughters Haven’t Watched A Cinderella Story Yet

As a seasoned observer and appreciator of the lives of notable personalities, I must say that Hilary Duff’s journey through motherhood is nothing short of inspiring. She has managed to maintain her grace under the intense scrutiny of public life while raising a charming young son, Luca.

Starring in “A Cinderella Story” could undoubtedly enhance a mother’s cool factor among her kids, making her shine like a precious gem in their crown of admiration.

But that’s not how it works in Hilary Duff‘s household.

In an exclusive interview with TopMob News, the former Lizzie McGuire star admitted that her kids don’t show much interest in her work. She mentioned that while she believes her 12-year-old son Luca may have watched the 2004 classic at some point, her daughters Banks (age 6) and Mae (age 3) haven’t yet seen it. However, they are big fans of her as a person, not necessarily of the projects she’s involved in. She hinted that their interest might grow with time.

In the meantime, Duff expressed that he strives for his family members to shine, as it holds significant importance for him within their home.

Following the birth of their daughter Townes in May, Duff and her husband Matthew Koma are overseeing a substantial group of actors.

She admitted that raising four children, with a 7-month-old baby among them, is both tough and demanding. At times, she and her partner, Matt, exchange glances and wonder aloud, “What on earth have we gotten ourselves into?

Koma revealed back in March that he underwent a vasectomy, which means they have reached their desired family size since they have already welcomed three daughters together.

However, Duff emphasized, “The truth is,” Duff (who co-parents Luca with her former husband, Mike Comrie), “we adore our family immensely. Incidentally, events such as visiting the Christmas tree lot—each year, we engage in a game of tag while choosing our tree, and I’m often juggling a baby and dashing through rows of holiday trees. Mae can now join in, hiding when she senses she’s not as swift as the rest. It’s all about happiness.

In addition, it’s important to mention a moment when everyone in the group fell ill with the flu, causing her to shed tears each night as she retired for the day. Yet, these challenging moments have made her cherish the joyous occasions all the more.

And, she continued, when “we’ve woken up early and every single one of us has schlepped to the soccer field to watch Luca, and he scores a goal and everyone’s cheering for him, that’s one of those moments where you’re like, ‘Oh.’

We’ve taken on quite a bit, yet we’re equipped to manage. The reason being, our hearts are brimming with enthusiasm, and our home is bustling and noisy – and overall, it’s mostly wonderful.

Additionally, as her spouse of five years proves to be incredibly considerate—he’s a fantastic father, always prioritizing our family—”she attests” – she has found solace in Meta AI during the festive season, serving as a valuable thought partner for her.

When she suddenly wakes up in the middle of the night with a thought, or is driving and multiple ideas pop into her mind, as a 37-year-old, she shared that she jots down these thoughts to Meta AI. In response, the AI suggests structured strategies to handle the tasks for the day, or even future tasks like those for next week, or who to buy presents for, and what those things are, or if she needs to bring an appetizer. Essentially, it’s like a large thought organizer that helps manage her thoughts and ideas.

Not only are her Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses beneficial, but they also played a significant role in impressing Luca with his soccer trivia questions.

“I can just cheat,” Duff cracked, “and he thinks I’m so smart.”

Despite his elder sibling being more intrigued by the stars she has encountered compared to her pathway to fame, he remains convinced that she is perfectly suited for each role.

Duff shared, “I recently applied for a position that didn’t end up being mine. Someone asked, ‘Did you get the job?’ To which I replied, ‘No, I didn’t. You know what, that was hard to take, but it’s alright, Luca. I’ve heard ‘no’ more often than ‘yes’ in my life. ‘Yes’ comes seldom, and ‘no’ is heard frequently, and I’m tough enough to handle it.’

The pre-teen responded with, “‘You’ll catch them next time,'” as Duff remembered. To which she replied, “‘I truly adore you, you’re simply fantastic.’

She’s also not the only one who thinks so.

Duff shared that her 6-year-old son is deeply fond of Banks and can be quite demanding towards him, yet it’s endearing. Moreover, he demonstrates kindness towards the baby, such as attempting to comfort her during tantrums in the car. She has consistently praised him for his kind nature, stating that he possesses a good heart inside and out.

She quipped, “The girls are the scary ones. I’m terrified of my 6-year-old right now.”

However, due to Banks being exceptionally intelligent and swift, the cunning tricks that were once effective during her youth are now ineffective because of her increased intelligence and quickness.

“I can’t trick you,” Duff noted, “you’re just going to figure it out too fast.”

Though it may just now have dawned on Banks how much her mom’s work means to some people.

Sabrina Carpenter donned the Lizzie McGuire costume for Halloween, and this prompted Banks to react excitedly. She exclaimed something like, “Why does she know who you are? Why does she even love you?” According to Duff, it was a delightful exchange.

But here’s the thing, it’s perfectly fine! We need to embrace the fact that nobody has everything perfectly organized all the time.

“On this day, I faced the challenge of taking care of two children by myself during a school morning – juggling breastfeeding, preparing breakfast, dressing everyone up, packing our belongings, and navigating through four dogs while feeding the fish. It wasn’t simple, but I managed to pull it off. And I must say, I’m incredibly proud of myself!

In a post on January, Duff, a mom of a colicky baby, asked her fellow mom followers for advice: “Have we reached the end of this? Is it possible to put them down without their crying or waking up?” She’s read everything online but only nursing seems to help. She’s tried all the obvious solutions and is seeking unconventional tips. She ended with a humorous note, saying “Thanks for filters, happy new year! #babyforsale #anytakers.

In an interview with MyDomaine in December, the star of ‘Younger’ expressed that having children has transformed her life profoundly. She explained, “Life is no longer just about me.” Instead, it has taught her extraordinary patience and brought immense happiness. However, if given the chance, she would have been better prepared for the lack of sleep that comes with parenthood. Humorously, she stated, “I would have hoarded sleep like a bear preparing for hibernation during winter.

In recent times, Duff has tried to keep things simple rather than extravagant. To preserve a memory of his past self, he took a selfie ☺️… Yet, it’s essential to recall that this moment, with the baby, spit-up, and sweat pants, not venturing outdoors, is merely a temporary phase that will pass swiftly❤️, as shared by Duff on social media in December.

In the interview with TopMob News last April, Duff explained, “I don’t manage to juggle everything perfectly all the time, but I do my best. Some months are more chaotic than others.” As a mother, she emphasized, her son comes first and is always her top priority. When making decisions, she asks herself, “Is it feasible? Will he receive what he needs from me?

She shared with Parade after having children that pregnancy seemed to prepare her for motherhood in ways she couldn’t fully anticipate. On the bright side, she found it absolutely incredible. Her life truly expanded in ways she never thought possible. It taught her patience, made her appreciate the moments and not let time slip away too quickly.

In a conversation with Today, Duff expressed that he often finds himself concerned about parenthood. He acknowledged that everyone desires their children’s lives to be flawless, but this is unattainable at all times. However, he added, the experience is incredibly enjoyable and he feels incredibly fortunate.

During her pregnancy with her daughter Banks in July 2018, the actress openly discussed the challenges of pregnancy on Instagram through a bikini photo featuring her baby bump. She expressed, “The breasts are large, the belly is large, the body is large. Oh my, pregnancy is tough. I want to express love to all mothers who make it seem effortless… this journey is incredibly difficult yet extraordinarily special.” She added, “It’s wonderful to have a new life growing inside and imagine all the exciting adventures ahead, but it’s almost impossible to put on my own shoes these days… I’m tired of getting up nine times a night to use the restroom and looking at this strange body in the mirror that isn’t mine right now. Women are incredibly strong and amazing, just wanted to remind myself and others how powerful and beautiful you are! We can handle this!

2017 marked the best, most life-changing event in my existence – the incredible gift of motherhood. Each day, I find myself filled with an immense gratitude for this role that I cherish deeply. Duff expressed to Parents.com that it’s essential for changes in co-parenting and their family to occur gradually. She acknowledged that introducing nonconventional ideas can be challenging, but stressed the importance of doing what feels right for them. Duff also emphasized the significance of recognizing one’s personal needs as a parent, which was an important lesson she learned throughout her journey of maintaining a strong family unit amidst changes.

In July 2017, Duff posted this touching poem on her social media, which she received from Peter Herman (Charles on @youngertv). He gave it to her during times when she was away from her son Luca while filming and she missed him dearly. She confessed that the last four lines made her cry and continue to do so whenever she reads it. For Duff, motherhood is the most precious gift she’s ever received, filled with daily adventures and challenges. She believes every parent will find this poem as moving as she does.

When asked about sharing parenting responsibilities equally with Matthew Koma, the singer explained that it’s not the case that their duties are split evenly. “I don’t subscribe to that idea; any mom would agree that it’s not 50/50,” Duff told Parents.com. “We have a greater responsibility all the time and forever. I think it’s crucial that they contribute in ways beyond just the baby and child. I am a proactive person, and [Matt] is very helpful; I know he will be a natural at this. However, in the beginning, most of the responsibility falls on the mother, so he needs to step up in other areas.

In her interview with RedBook in 2017, she expressed that she often grapples with a sense of guilt or indecision about certain matters. At one point, she worried about not working, thinking things like, “I shouldn’t be idle for this long.” However, she acknowledged that such thoughts were irrational, especially as a parent. She reassured herself that it was perfectly acceptable to take time off, and she found it liberating to no longer adhere to someone else’s schedule, aside from her son Luca’s. Essentially, she considered herself more like a chauffeur for him.

In 2017, Duff shared with Redbook her honest feelings about co-parenting with ex Mike Comrie. She initially found it challenging but now considers it normal. After a few weeks of sole custody when he was away, she admitted to being relieved when he returned, exclaiming, ‘He’s yours! See you later!’

Following the sharing of this charming photo at Disneyland in 2016, Duff defended herself against critics who criticized her kiss with her son Luca on Instagram. In response to those labeling it as “inappropriate”, she assertively stated, “If you find a quick unfollow convenient for your distorted perspectives and judgement, feel free to do so.

Before your baby even arrives, you may already experience judgment. The journey to motherhood is incredibly unique and enchanting, yet it can also feel quite solitary,” was how Kourtney Duff put it to Entertainment Tonight in 2015 when discussing the judgments parents often face from others.
