Why isn’t Dragon Age: The Veilguard multiplayer? Developer explains

As a seasoned critic who’s spent countless hours traversing the fantastical realms of BioWare games, I must admit that the absence of multiplayer in Dragon Age: The Veilguard has left me with a tinge of nostalgic longing. After all, the camaraderie forged amidst the heat of battle and the shared triumphs against formidable foes are experiences that few other games can replicate.

dragon age games have consistently emphasized a group of aspiring heroes, and the upcoming sequel, The Veilguard, follows suit. Notably, the previous installment, Dragon Age: Inquisition (released in 2014), introduced cooperative multiplayer, marking a first for the series.

In the novel game, you assume the role of Rook and work towards gathering a diverse band of fighters to prevent two Elven deities from devastating Thedas. These characters can aid us in battle by unleashing potent spells against adversaries, some of which may amplify the effectiveness of your own assaults for increased impact.

It seems that collaborating with some friends in the real world could enhance your experience, much like previous versions. So, is Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s multiplayer similar to its predecessors?

Unfortunately, if you’re hoping for a multiplayer experience in Thedas, I regret to inform you that it isn’t available. The developers have explained their decision for omitting this feature from The Veilguard.

Let’s take a look at what’s been said ahead of its release on 31st October 2024.

Why isn’t Dragon Age: The Veilguard multiplayer? Developer explains

According to a recent report by Game Rant, BioWare General Manager Gary McKay shared during an interview with Game Informer (before it closed) that they intentionally left out a certain feature in The Veilguard as a way of returning the series to its original essence.

He argued that multiplayer wouldn’t be able to capture the feeling of “amazing storytelling, unforgettable characters and the ability to feel like players truly influence the world around them with their choices”, according to the article.

It appears this move could be strategic, given that the cooperative mode in Dragon Age: Inquisition was met with differing opinions.

Will Dragon Age: The Veilguard get multiplayer later?

According to BioWare, the developer of The Veilguard, there’s currently no announcement about whether multiplayer mode will be integrated into the game in the future.

According to the favorable comments and what McKay stated earlier, it seems likely that the game may not include multiplayer options in the future. After all, why would BioWare alter something that’s already received positive responses from players?
