As a devoted pet lover and someone who has experienced the profound impact pets can have on our lives, I wholeheartedly empathize with Kaitlyn Bristowe‘s decision to seek sole custody of her beloved pups, Ramen and Pinot.
Kaitlyn Bristowe is seeking sole custody of her pups.
After the former “Bachelorette” star and ex-Jason Tartick decided to share custody of their golden retrievers Ramen and Pinot following their separation in August 2023, she explained why this arrangement isn’t suitable for her – or the dogs anymore.
On the September 19th episode of her Off the Vine podcast, Kaitlyn expressed that if you’ve been tuning in or keeping up with her at all, you’d understand how significant Ramen and Pinot are for her. These two things truly illuminate her life. It’s a source of sorrow for her to be away from them.
39-year-old woman disclosed that her goldens retrievers prefer staying put, rather than moving between her house and that of Jason’s.
She shared that taking turns caring for the dogs made her observe that they become fearful, uneasy, and anxious due to uncertainty about their next destination and return time. This isn’t a reflection on anyone; it happens regardless of where they are – be it someone else’s house or hers. The dogs seem terrified of leaving, and she has noticed significant changes in them, often marked by anxiety, which deeply saddened her.
As a lifestyle expert, I myself recently shared an experience where I faced correction regarding the shared custody arrangement my partner, Jason, and I had established, post our adopting of our beloved canines, following our contact with the very same agency that facilitated their rescue.
In my professional opinion, I was informed rather sternly, “This is not permissible.” The idea of sharing custody of these two divine canines, who were clearly in need of safety, affection, and consistency, seemed unacceptable to them. They even hinted that they might reclaim the dogs if they felt it was unfair to them.
Despite Kaitlyn (who pointed out that the pets’ adoption agreement prohibited joint custody) eventually choosing to permanently take care of the pets herself, she underscored that Jason is free to maintain whatever level of relationship with them he desires.
She emphasized, “I wouldn’t bar them from anyone. To clarify, even though I state ‘I no longer wish to co-parent as it’s best for our dogs,’ I want him to understand that he is always invited to spend time with the dogs if he visits over the weekend or wants to take them out for a walk.
Kaitlyn clarified that, due to some past issues, she was particularly cautious about allowing her ex to meet their dogs.
She shared, “A former partner once told me, ‘You’ll never meet this pet again,’ which was incredibly difficult for me to accept. I assured him, ‘I could never intentionally separate someone from their beloved animal.’
