Why Lizzo Says “Only God” Can Cancel Her Now After Controversy

As a passionate fan who has followed Lizzo’s journey from the very beginning, I must say that her strength and resilience have always been nothing short of inspiring. Her recent decision to take some time off for self-care and protection is a testament to her character and dedication to her wellbeing.

Lizzo is only focusing on herself now.

About two months since the artist famed for “Good as Hell” revealed her plan for a year-long break to safeguard her tranquility, she has shared some insights about her present perspective on internet postings.

During Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit on October 14th, Lizzo expressed that she feels she has been removed from all aspects at this point. She added, “Only God can remove me now.” She believes she discusses matters that are crucial to her and can make a difference, and these seem to be her limits in sharing with the public now.

36-year-old’s current thoughts are prompted by events from a year ago when she was sued by three ex-dancers in August, accusing her of establishing a “toxic work atmosphere,” as well as body-shaming them and other charges.

Days later, she vehemently denied the claims on social media.

Over the past few days, I’ve found myself facing incredibly tough and disheartening times. My dedication, integrity, and kindness have been called into question. My personality has become a subject of criticism. (Lizzo)

She typically doesn’t address baseless accusations, but these ones are so implausible it’s hard to ignore them. The extravagant tales being circulated are from past employees who have acknowledged that their conduct during the tours was deemed inappropriate and unprofessional by those around them.

Additionally, the Grammy-winning artist emphasized that she approaches her music and performances with great importance, ensuring that whatever she shares accurately represents who she is.

Nevertheless, several months following her remarks, she chose to resign as a result of the backlash she encountered during the legal proceedings.

In her Instagram post from March, she expressed her frustration of constantly being pulled along by those around her, both in real life and online. What she yearns for is the chance to create music, bring joy, and contribute positively to society. However, she’s finding it increasingly challenging as she feels overlooked and unappreciated by the world.

She went on to say, “I’m repeatedly faced with falsehoods about myself, spread for popularity and views. Additionally, I often find myself the target of jokes due to my appearance… My personality is scrutinized by individuals who barely know me, and they show a lack of respect for my reputation.

However, it’s important to note that she doesn’t plan on leaving music. On the contrary, Lizzo shared that she’s choosing to ignore any unfavorable remarks instead.

As she put it in April, “I’m going to keep being me.”
