Why MobLand’s Harry Might Soon Betray Brosnan & Mirren’s Harrigans for Richie

In the world of MobLand, Harry Da Souza, played by Tom Hardy, serves as the primary character, though not exactly a traditional hero. However, his connections with Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren respectively, are making it challenging for viewers to cheer him on. Initially, the Harrigan crime family was presented as the “good” side in this series, a notion that’s hard to swallow given how sinister both the Harrigans and their adversaries, the Stevensons, have turned out to be. As the story unfolds, it’s become increasingly clear that the elder Harrigans are nothing but villains.

In the inner circle of the unpredictable Conrad Harrigan, it’s clear that Harry Da Souza isn’t an innocent bystander; in fact, he’s been responsible for more killings within the first six episodes of the Harrigan crime syndicate than any other member. Moreover, his loyalty to the Harrigans has taken a toll on his personal life, causing him to neglect his wife and child, and even endanger their lives. Despite these negative aspects, Harry’s talent and composed demeanor have earned him an intriguing appeal as a TV character. However, that charm is rapidly fading.

It’s Becoming Difficult To Root For Harry – Because The Harrigans Are So Awful

Conrad And Maeve Are Unhinged And Evil

It can be challenging to continue supporting Harry, given his ties to the questionable Harrigans. Their actions, particularly those of Conrad and Maeve, are so reprehensible they border on being comically wicked. The murder of Vron Stevenson by Maeve, which Conrad claimed responsibility for, was abhorrent, but their subsequent call to torment Richie about her death was truly deplorable. Conrad’s discomforting interaction with Gina Da Souza showcased his sleazy and inappropriate behavior, making him not just a murderer, but an unstable one at that.

In the gritty realm of MobLand, Harry’s job for the Harrigans is primarily seen as just that – work. He generally adheres to the gangland rules about who to target and avoid. Yet, his unwavering devotion to Conrad underpins every move he makes. This loyalty has so far stopped him from crossing any lines set by Conrad, who some might view as utterly evil. However, this consistent obedience to such an evil figure casts doubt on Harry’s heroic image, making it challenging to perceive him in a positive light within the crime-ridden world of MobLand.

Richie Is Actually More Sympathetic Than The Harrigans In MobLand

He’s Been The More Reasonable Crime Family Boss

In comparison to the harsh and seemingly malicious Harrigans, it is Richie Stevenson who has emerged as the more compassionate figure. Similar to Conrad and Maeve, Richie is ready to take lives in defense of his London fentanyl empire, but he does not fit the conventional hero mold. However, it is Richie’s restraint and wisdom that make him stand out from the Harrigans. So far, he has demonstrated an awareness of the dangers associated with being a crime lord and refuses to let personal vengeance jeopardize his business interests.

The decisive evidence lay in his decision to prevent a near-inevitable gang conflict following the death of his son, Tommy. Regardless of Kevin and Harry’s attempts to hide it, Richie was certain from the start that Eddie Harrigan had killed his son. However, instead of targeting the entire Harrigan family, he specifically singled out Eddie and allowed the rest of them to carry on with their business dealings peacefully. The ruthless Harrigans repaid his restraint and wisdom by murdering his wife, thus igniting a full-blown gang war.

Could Harry Leave The Harrigans For Richie?

It Seems More Possible By The Day

Richie has repeatedly expressed his liking for Harry when they are together in person. However, Harry hasn’t reciprocated, quite the contrary. It appears increasingly likely that Harry is betraying the Harrigans to aid Richie. The murder of Vron Stevenson was a turning point in the conflict between the families, and all of a sudden, Harry’s family found themselves in grave danger. With more reason than ever, he seems determined to distance himself from risky individuals like Maeve and Conrad Harrigan.

The situation might become clearer for him if Maeve’s scheme succeeds in ousting Conrad as leader of the Harrigan crime family. Given that Maeve holds no loyalty to either Conrad or Harry, she has even accused Harry of ratting out Archie’s location (an accusation Maeve may have fabricated herself). If Maeve manages to remove Conrad from the scene, the Stevenson crime family could appear as a more appealing option for Harry in the underworld, potentially paving his way forward.
