Although many viewers wondered why Big Red’s transformation was exposed so early in promotional content, director Julius Onah has clarified the reasons behind revealing Thaddeus Ross’s transformation into Red Hulk in the trailers.
In a conversation with Empire Magazine, Onah expressed that concealing Red Hulk from Brave New World’s trailers wasn’t an option, as the storyline would have been spoiled somehow if it weren’t revealed. He stated, “The whole thing would have been ruined in some other way.
In today’s world, when news spreads quickly, as soon as it’s announced that Harrison Ford is playing Thaddeus Ross in a movie like this, you’re essentially cooked. Given the enormous and enthusiastic fanbase of the MCU, such a revelation would have been a challenge to keep under wraps. Ideally, it could have been an exciting surprise revealed in the theater, but considering how easily information leaks nowadays, it might have been challenging to maintain secrecy. Somehow or other, whether through a toy finding its way out or someone leaking a trailer, secrets are hard to keep secret today.
‘Brave New World’ Kept a Different Character Hidden in the Shadows
In the movie, Red Hulk turned out to be a main attraction, both on-screen and in promotional materials. However, unlike him, the film’s antagonist was cleverly concealed in all movie trailers. The Leader’s appearance was a surprise when the film premiered, as even the merchandise such as action figures and Funkos were modeled after the character’s original, discarded design.

However, July’s premiere of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will undeniably serve as a significant gauge for how other Marvel films featuring well-known characters perform. Both “Brave New World” and May’s release of “Thunderbolts,” unlike the more out-of-this-world cosmic tales from Marvel Comics, were grounded action movies.
