As a dedicated viewer of Today, I must say this week has been nothing short of entertaining! From Cher’s unexpected F-bomb to Richard Gere’s unintentional yet amusing middle finger gesture, it seems like the stars are having a bit too much fun with us viewers at home.
It’s been one wild week on Today.
On a particular day, following Cher’s usage of a strong language in her interview with Hoda Kotb, Richard Gere made an obscene gesture during the airing of NBC’s morning show on November 20th.
Co-anchor Savannah Guthrie was taken aback by the offensive gesture, letting out a surprised gasp before swiftly pushing down the hand of the actress from “Pretty Woman” using her pile of interview materials.
It seems that during a live TV interview, Gere raised his middle finger. Rest assured, this was not an intentional gesture meant to show disrespect towards the staff or audience of the Today program.
Since he was attending to publicize his latest Showtime suspense drama titled The Agency, they inevitably screened a brief excerpt showcasing his character within the TV series. Following this, the 75-year-old elaborated on what transpired in the upcoming scene for his character.
Gere pointed out, as he displayed his middle finger, that you were absent, but that’s exactly the gesture he used in the piece. In other words, that’s what the video represented.
Surprised, Guthrie retorted, “You’ve made an offensive gesture on this morning program for families. I’ll be censoring that remark!
Guthrie mentioned that they needed to eliminate the action from the recording due to clear causes, followed by him jokingly saying, “However, you performed it live!
Yet, as Gere clarified, “I understood that, but it didn’t seem logical unless that factor was included. It was my hand that performed the action, not me controlling it directly.
This is the second hilarious celebrity snafu to hit Today this week.
Guthrie chuckled, remarking, “Yesterday, Cher dropped an F-bomb on the show, so I’m not sure what the norm is anymore!
See Guthrie’s priceless reaction above.
Today airs weekday mornings on NBC and The Agency premieres Nov. 29 on Showtime and Paramount+.
