Ashley Poston rarely gets inspiration for her TBR list from her For You page.
Although her literary works, such as the upcoming novel “The Seven Year Slip” in 2023, have garnered significant attention on BookTok and Bookstagram, she deliberately chooses to maintain a distance from this community. She has a well-considered motive for doing so.
In the interview with TopMob News, Poston clarified, “This isn’t a place for writers; it’s designed for readers. I’m open to engagement when I’m tagged or invited, but generally speaking, I view this as a reader’s domain.
From her perspective, it’s crucial that readers have the freedom to discuss books without the influence or input from the authors.
She added, “I prefer to maintain a boundary there since I don’t believe it’s fitting for a creative individual like myself to be amidst discussions about my work, including critiques and reader interactions. I want that area to serve as a sanctuary for them instead.
But that’s not to say Poston isn’t actively engaging with her fans every chance she gets.
Indeed, ranging from her Young Adult successes such as “Geekerella” to her romance novels like “The Dead Romantics”, she’s had heartfelt discussions with readers who found themselves reflected in her writing.

It’s hardly unexpected that Poston’s work resonates with readers, given that her books, particularly her romance novels, tackle challenging themes such as grief and loss head-on. This approach is, in fact, a reflection of the author’s own nature when writing A Novel Love Story.
She observed that life is much like a swinging pendulum, with periods of intense joy followed by equally intense sorrow. In the same vein, humor in stories becomes more impactful when contrasted with an underlying tone of melancholy or grief, just as we experience in real life where we don’t only live happy rom-coms but also face personal struggles and have our own unique ‘women’s fiction’ story unfolding.
She stressed that merging the two aspects is deeply important to her. To keep the ups and downs of the book in check, she feels compelled to do it. She finds that a book focusing solely on romance, while appealing, leaves her mind struggling for some reason, so she needs to stir her emotions to replenish her creative resources.
In her latest book, titled “Sounds Like Love” (releasing on June 17), the process is evident as it delves into the story of a songwriter stuck in a routine who partners with another musician to finish a composition, aiming to break the bond of their telepathic link.

This summer, Poston isn’t just offering her latest seasonal book titled “Sounds Like Love“, she’s teaming up with Sonic on the launch of their new Sweet Topped Lemonades. In a joint effort with First Books, Sonic is giving away 100,000 books to underprivileged communities through its Limeades for Learning foundation as part of this collaboration.
Growing up in a quaint southern town, my most cherished memories, particularly during high school, revolved around late-night trips to Sonic with my pals. After finishing our marching band duties, we’d head straight to Sonic for their delicious limeades or milkshakes. When Sonic approached me about this chance, it felt almost intuitive.
Having relatives involved in education has provided her with a personal, practical insight into the significance of reading skills and availability of books.
She stressed that any beverage pairs well with Limeades for Learning. So, why not enjoy a refreshing drink and make a contribution to a worthy cause at the same time? It’s hard to imagine going wrong with that combination.

As time goes by and they spend more time together, an unexpected chemistry between them starts to ignite…
