After watching the latest preview for “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” I find myself increasingly convinced that the debut of this MCU team will not be successful. Based on what we’ve seen in the trailers so far, it appears that this alternate reality, set in a retro-futuristic 1960s, has the world completely smitten with The Fantastic Four. However, this growing affection for them only strengthens my belief that Marvel’s First Family is about to encounter a challenge they may not be able to conquer.
Previous reports indicate that the upcoming film “Fantastic Four: First Steps” won’t retell their origins. Instead, we find our beloved characters, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm, having already developed their powers, with fame and television appearances to show for it. My prediction is that this new adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will test the Fantastic Four like never before, pushing them to the brink and forcing tough choices by the film’s climax as they confront insurmountable odds.
After Fantastic Four’s New Trailer, I’m Confident The New MCU Team Will Fail Against Galactus
The World Devourer Is Likely Too Powerful To Stop
In the latest sneak peek of Fantastic Four, it’s crystal clear they are adored superheroes and A-list celebrities in this alternate universe. They grace our screens on TV and boast a range of popular endorsements. The public can’t get enough of them, evidenced by the numerous citizens thanking the quartet and acknowledging their guardians, who reside high above in the Baxter Building. Given this, it’s easy to guess that this idyllic situation is about to be turned upside down.
It’s evident that the arrival of the Silver Surfer, signaling Galactus’ approach, is a formidable threat that deeply unsettles the Fantastic Four, and this is especially noticeable in Reed Richards, portrayed by Pedro Pascal in this latest trailer. Contrary to his reputation as the Smartest Man Alive, Mister Fantastic cannot assure the public of their safety when pressed by reporters. Furthermore, Reed’s actions later on, such as erasing equations with a grim remark about insufficient time, and his vow at the end of the trailer that The Fantastic Four will safeguard them, leaves one feeling doubtful about their commitment to protect.
As Their Celebrity Status Falls Apart, The Fantastic Four Will Be Divided
Should They Stay And Fight, Or Leave To Survive?
It’s highly possible that the impending danger from Galactus will cause widespread panic among the public, potentially eroding trust in The Fantastic Four. Additionally, it appears the team might be grappling with internal disagreements regarding their course of action. Facing a tough decision, they may have to weigh the choice between their own safety and the world’s protection against Galactus, knowing the odds are stacked against them. Furthermore, Sue Storm’s pregnancy complicates matters even further.
It’s worth mentioning that the latest trailer hints at a conflict between Reed and Sue regarding evacuating the planet and ensuring their family’s safety versus staying to protect it. If this is accurate, the looming threat of Galactus promises an intriguing exploration of heroism, particularly if this is the first time the Marvel Cinematic Universe team encounters such a colossal challenge, unlike anything they’ve faced before.
Will The Fantastic Four Be Seeking Redemption in Avengers: Doomsday?
A Major MCU Loss Is Certainly Possible
As a movie aficionado, let me share some exciting news: All four actors portraying the Fantastic Four have confirmed appearances in the 2026 blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday. Yet, it’s crucial to note that their participation doesn’t guarantee victory against Galactus. The Fantastic Four will undoubtedly stand firm and exhaust every possible resource to thwart the World Devourer from swallowing their planet. However, I can’t help but anticipate a heart-wrenching outcome if they are ultimately unable to save their world.
It’s essential for the Fantastic Four and the main MCU Avengers to cross paths, and one compelling scenario could be that the Fantastic Four are forced into exile across universes after losing their own world. In their desperation to protect those who relied on them, they faced tragic failure. This heart-wrenching predicament would certainly make sense. I’m eagerly awaiting the outcome when Fantastic Four: First Steps premieres this year, even if it delves into some darker territory.
Fantastic Four: First Steps releases in theaters on July 25th from Marvel Studios.
