Originally one of the nine independent episodes of Visions Season One, produced by Japanese studio Production I.G, The Ninth Jedi garnered immense popularity among viewers and is set to return in Visions Season Three with a sequel episode. The upcoming sequel, titled The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope, will be followed by a limited series entitled Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi. But as she grows more adept in wielding her lightsaber, her Force abilities gradually emerge.

An intriguing idea not typically found in the main Star Wars series is presented here: each individual’s lightsaber color reflects their identity. When Kara, the daughter of a sabersmith, embarks on her journey, her lightsaber initially appears grey. As her adventure unfolds, it gradually acquires more colors until ultimately transforming into green. The use of different lightsaber colors is cleverly employed at the episode’s conclusion, where a group of Jedi are unmasked as Sith when their lightsabers switch to red. Kara and the genuine Jedi manage to defeat the Sith in battle. Following their victory, they set out to find more Jedi and Kara’s father, who had been abducted by the Sith.

While the final episode of the “Ninth Jedi” marked Kara’s transformation from a novice to a full-fledged Jedi, there were numerous intriguing plot points that warranted further exploration. Set thousands of years in the future when the Jedi are merely legends, with only a handful surviving in the galaxy, this series intentionally left threads open for continuation. Unlike the self-contained narrative of “Visions,” the “Ninth Jedi” purposefully planted seeds for future developments. The primary characters are on a mission to locate other Jedi, which suits the format of serial storytelling quite well.
