Why Tom Selleck Was Frustrated Amid Blue Bloods Coming to an End

As a long-time TV enthusiast who has seen countless series come and go, I must say that this year seems to be quite an eventful one for our beloved shows. From The Boys bidding us farewell after five seasons to Walker wrapping up its run on The CW, it’s hard not to feel a bit nostalgic.

Tom Selleck is still feeling blue over this news.

As the last eight episodes of “Blue Bloods” are set to air soon, the 79-year-old looks back at the cherished show and shares his dissenting viewpoint regarding its termination after 14 successful seasons.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, published on October 3rd, Tom expressed some feelings of exasperation. He mentioned that despite his reluctance to discuss the show’s conclusion, he couldn’t help but acknowledge its continued success on Blue Bloods.

He indicated to the position that was No. 9 on Nielsen’s Top 100 most-watched TV shows for 2023-24, and when you exclude the top three (NFL Sunday Night, Monday Night, and Thursday Night Football), it would be in sixth place.

He clarified that he felt disappointed because the show was often overlooked since it succeeded right from the start. He added, “I don’t like to harbor resentment, but if someone were to tell a television network, ‘Here’s a program you can air in the most unfavorable time slot, and it will guarantee your victory every Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be tough to accept as truth.

Tom, who starred as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan alongside actors Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes on the show that premiered in 2010, mentioned it would take him some time to gather his thoughts after wrapping up filming.

He mentioned that following the weekend when we filmed the final episode, he stated, ‘I need to go to bed early tonight since I have to record my lines for tomorrow.’ However, as it turned out, there was no tomorrow; it would simply take some time.

Previously, the former star of Magnum P.I. has also openly expressed his disagreement on certain matters. On CBS Sunday Morning in May, he confessed, “CBS will eventually realize their mistake,” adding, “Every member of the cast is eager to return. Let me assure you: we’re not plummeting off a cliff. We’re producing quality shows and maintaining our audience.

Despite the sad news in November when CBS declared the cop drama was ending, I couldn’t help but reminisce about the incredible journey I had been part of for 13 remarkable years while working on this project.

It was a great honor and pleasure to work on a series that pays tribute to the heroes who safeguard and uphold New York City, while emphasizing the significance of family. In a statement, he expressed his feelings about this, saying it was a dream come true to collaborate with such talented actors, writers, producers, directors, and crew. I feel fortunate to have been part of this exceptional team for more than 275 episodes.
