There’s a strong likelihood that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion’s remaster (either genuine or an exceptionally elaborate hoax) is almost upon us. Whispers abound suggesting it might drop within the next week, but for some enthusiasts, that’s still too long to wait. Consequently, fans have stepped up and taken matters into their own hands – not referring to the Skyblivion mod, which has been under development for 13 years (and is yet to be completed).
A fan on Reddit (via VG247) has shared an alternate version of Oblivion, instead of recreating it within Skyrim, they’ve remade it in a style resembling 1993’s Doom. This wasn’t achieved by creating a traditional Doom WAD, but rather through the Easy FPS Editor – a tool that enables users to create their own boomer shooters. However, Oblivion doesn’t typically feature demons emerging from hell, so the user creatively used the Adoring Fan as the closest equivalent to hellspawn in this adaptation.
Although it isn’t a complete remake of the popular open-world RPG or a playable demo, this concept is generating excitement among Oblivion enthusiasts. One user exclaimed, “I’d gladly give it a whirl,” while another noticed, “The combat seems improved over the original game.” Despite some potential future development, as the original poster later noted, “I’m amazed so many people are interested in playing this. I might try to create a level, but by then, the remake would probably be out, so it’d be best to wait for that instead.
Given that we don’t yet know much about The Elder Scrolls 6, it seems likely that there will be ample opportunity for you to dive into Doom Eternal (or Doomblivion as you mentioned) once you’ve completed the remastered version.
