In a recent interview on the “Awards Circuit Podcast”, Ariana Grande revealed that the upcoming film, Wicked 2, will include an original song specifically for the character Glinda. This new tune is said to be significant and serves as a pivotal point in Glinda’s story. Grande expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to this next chapter of Glinda’s tale.
The follow-up’s fresh tune was penned by composer Stephen Schwartz, who collaborated on the musical score for the initial stage production. Grande expressed: “This is a crucial point in Glinda’s storyline. It reveals an aspect of her that we haven’t witnessed before. In the play, this transformation occurs offstage. However, in the film, we get to watch Glinda make the choice that shapes her identity. It’s an honor to perform this song and be the first Glinda to breathe life into it.
In a simple and natural way of phrasing: The original movie adaptation of “Wicked” only covered Act 1, so the continuation, titled “Wicked: For Good”, will wrap up the story. This sequel is scheduled for release on November 21st, 2025, but it was actually filmed concurrently with the first part and is currently in post-production. This means that the main cast and creative team remain the same throughout both productions.
Ariana Grande has often expressed that this role was a dream come true for her during her public appearances, and she delved deeper into this in a recent podcast. She reminisced about her admiration for the Broadway musical, stating: “I saw Kristen [Chenoweth], and it felt like heaven. It’s almost unbelievable to think that I’m now slipping into these shoes – ones I’ve adored since I was a child. This is the highest honor of my life.
Besides discussing her dedication, Grande mentioned the immense effort she invested in preparing for her performance. She shared: “I had been taking acting lessons a year prior to the auditions, as I wanted to be fully prepared. Changing my voice to sing Glinda’s soprano parts required several months. Pop singing and musical theater require different techniques, so I needed to retrain my muscles and alter my approach to each note.
She continued, “As soon as I heard about this role, I knew it would be ingrained in me for life. It’s a privilege, yet it carries immense responsibility. I felt compelled to make it worthy. Glinda isn’t simply a character; she embodies growth and love for me, and I wanted to pour all my abilities into her.
Currently, “Wicked” can be seen in certain cinemas, and it’s also accessible for rental or purchase through digital video-on-demand platforms at home. Starting from November 21st, “Wicked: For Good” will be screened in theaters.
