Wicked Finally Gets a Streaming Premiere Date

The highly acclaimed movie from 2024, “Wicked“, is set to premiere on the streaming platform, Peacock, starting March. This blockbuster shattered box office records in November and continued its triumphant run with a remarkable 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. In just about a month, audiences worldwide can enjoy watching “Wicked” at their convenience.

As a cinephile thrilled by the latest updates, I’m excited to share that after an extended box office triumph, raking in over $727 million, and a complete home media release, the much-anticipated film “Wicked” is about to grace our screens at home. Peacock and Universal confirmed on Wednesday that starting from March 21st, “Wicked” will be exclusively streamed on their service.

Alongside the standard movie version, Peacock is set to offer the theatrically released sing-along version of Wicked, along with a variety of special features from both the DVD and VOD releases. This unique collection will include all deleted scenes, which can be streamed on Peacock together with the film itself. It’s worth noting that this is quite rare in the streaming era. Unfortunately, fans will need to exercise patience as they won’t be able to access the movie on Peacock for another month.

Wicked Sequel Arriving This Year

You’re probably aware that the movie “Wicked” is only a part of the complete story. Both parts of the adaptation were filmed simultaneously and later split into two films, with the second one scheduled for release in November, making it almost a year since the first was out. The sequel has been named “Wicked: For Good”.

The fresh title references one of the top hits from the entire “Wicked” soundtrack – “For Good”. This song is performed towards the end of the play and is arguably the most recognized tune from the second half of the performance.

In the narrative of Elphaba and Glinda, “For Good” holds significant weight. Disclosing further details might lead into spoilers for the Wicked sequel. However, it’s clear that these two words are deeply ingrained in the visual language and symbolism of the musical.

As the first “Wicked” movie arrives on streaming platforms in March, fans can enjoy multiple viewings before the “Wicked: For Good” theatrical premiere on November 21st.
