As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but share my dreams aloud, just like Cynthia Erivo does. After the phenomenal success of “Wicked,” everyone’s been wondering what’s next for this talented actress. Marvel enthusiasts, in particular, have been buzzing about the possibility of Erivo joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with many suggesting she should play Storm in a future X-Men film. Now, in an exciting turn of events, Erivo herself has expressed her desire to don the role of Storm. It seems that this could be a match made in cinematic heaven!
At a conversation with the National Board of Review, Erivo was inquired about a character she’d like to bring to life in the future. Erivo expressed interest in playing Storm, likely in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She elaborated on the richness she sees within the character, which is one reason she’s drawn to the role.
Erivo expressed a strong desire to portray Storm, stating, ‘There’s a potential here that we haven’t fully explored yet. I believe there’s a chance for us to delve deeper into her grandeur and the internal struggles she endures.’ In simpler terms, Erivo is suggesting that there might be an opportunity for us to present a more profound interpretation of Storm’s character.
If Erivo expresses her interest in playing Storm in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), she’s picking an opportune moment to do so. In recent TV shows and movies like “Ms. Marvel,” “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and “X-Men ’97”, Marvel has been setting up a framework for how it might eventually incorporate Mutants and the X-Men into the MCU. Although Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, hasn’t explicitly confirmed that an X-Men film is in development, it’s widely speculated that Mutants will take on a more significant role in the MCU after the 2027 release of “Avengers: Secret Wars”. With this potential expansion of the X-Men in mind, Erivo might have a strong chance of landing the role of Storm since the casting for various X-Men characters is expected to become a major focus in future years.
In the coming years, Erivo will once again portray Elphaba Thropp in the upcoming production of “Wicked: For Good,” set for release in November 2025. Meanwhile, the original part of “Wicked” can still be seen in theaters and is now available for streaming as well.
