As a long-time fan of musicals and the original Wizard of Oz, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming release of Wicked! Having grown up with the tale of the Wicked Witch of the West, I always wondered what her side of the story was. Now, with Arianne Grande portraying Elphaba, a character I’ve long admired, this film is bound to be a spectacle.
Due to the 2023 actor’s strike, the production of Wicked was suddenly paused, leaving just six days remaining for filming. Fortunately, shooting has since been finished, and we now have a brand new Wicked trailer featuring Ariana Grande.
The movie, titled “Wicked,” follows the tale of a woman with green skin, falsely accused by the Wizard of Oz, who eventually transforms into the infamous Wicked Witch of the West. This is the initial part of a two-piece film adaption based on the hit Broadway musical.
Wicked: Exploring the Other Side of the Yellow Brick Road
The movie features Michelle Yeoh, a winner of the Oscar, portraying the regal headmistress Madame Morrible at Shiz University; Jonathan Bailey (known for “Bridgerton” and “Fellow Travelers”) playing Fiyero, a charming and free-spirited prince; Ethan Slater (nominated for a Tony and star of Broadway’s “Spongebob Squarepants” and “Fosse/Verdon”) as Boq, a kind-hearted Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her first film role as Nessarose, Elphaba’s beloved sister; and cultural icon Jeff Goldblum as the revered Wizard of Oz.
Wicked is released on 24th November 2024
