Will ‘Bridgerton’ Fans Have to Wait Until Late 2026 for Season 4?

It’s possible that Bridgerton will come back with its fourth season in the year 2026, however, there’s a chance it might be more than a year before Netflix releases fresh installments of the series.

Netflix recently revealed that the shooting for season 4 was completed earlier this month. While some enthusiasts viewed it as a sign that the series might return sooner, others noted that filming for season 3 concluded in March 2023 and underwent post-production until May of this year. Assuming the same 14-month timeframe, fans predicted that season 4 could potentially air as late as September 2026.

Jess Brownell, the showrunner, had revealed back in June 2024 that we could expect a delay of approximately two years before Season 4 became available.

Brownell mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that we’re making efforts to accelerate the release of our seasons, but it’s a lengthy process. Each season takes eight months to produce, followed by editing and dubbing into various languages.

Brownell emphasized that their main focus was crafting the finest season they could, and he mentioned, “Writing also requires a significant amount of time, so we’re essentially working at a two-year pace. We’re aiming to pick up the speed, but we’re generally operating somewhere within that range.

Fans of Bridgerton have become accustomed to enduring lengthy waits for fresh content. The first season of the popular period drama aired in 2020, featuring Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne and Regé-Jean Page as Simon as the show’s central characters. Two years later, the Netflix series delved into Anthony’s (Jonathan Bailey) love story with Kate (Simone Ashley), which is derived from Julia Quinn’s books.

Ever since Bridgerton made a comeback this year, spotlighting Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), Netflix has been enchanting us by extending the storyline through the prequel series, Queen Charlotte, which debuted in 2023. Now, as I eagerly anticipate every new development, I can’t help but be thrilled at the prospect of season 4 unveiling Benedict’s (Luke Thompson) blossoming romance with Sophie (Yerin Ha).

In simple terms, it was announced by Netflix in May that the series would continue with seasons 5 and 6. As for who will take center stage in these upcoming episodes, that detail is yet to be revealed; however, according to Julia Quinn, the writer of ‘Bridgerton’, that decision has already been made.

Quinn, aged 55, shared with Us Weekly in May that he knows who is set to appear next. However, he cautioned that things might still shift, as the lineup has been altered before.

She expressed: “I’m wishing for the day when each of our siblings will step forward to guide us, as we cherish them all. Essentially, this has been the underlying theme of the stories – while there are eight distinct narratives, they are all intertwined.

Quinn went on to say that it “was fine” that the show opted to switch up the order of the books.

She clarified that when adapting books, movies, or TV shows, there are unique requirements for each medium to ensure success. Each format has distinct advantages, and what excels in a book might not translate effectively to television. To illustrate this, she pointed out that the TV series underwent some modifications because it needed to transition into an ensemble production, rather than solely focusing on one character as in the original book.
