Will Doctor Who’s Mrs. Flood Become a Hero Before Season 15 Concludes?

Despite the fact that viewers of “Doctor Who” are now familiar with Mrs. Flood, I’m positive she will become good by the end of season 15. In the finale of season 15, “The Interstellar Song Contest,” it is revealed that Mrs. Flood is actually The Rani from “Doctor Who,” a significant development for the series. This revelation marks The Rani’s first appearance in the modern version of “Doctor Who” and her return to screens since the 1980s.

Despite the fact that Mrs. Flood’s true identity has been revealed on Doctor Who, it doesn’t necessarily mean she will remain a villain. Her villainous debut was impressive, but there seems to be more to her character yet to be discovered. It’s common for characters in Doctor Who to switch sides during the struggle between good and evil, and anything is possible within the confines of this show.

Doctor Who Is Setting Up Mrs. Flood Turning On The Rani

Mrs. Flood’s Behavior Suggests She’s Up To Something

It seems quite plausible that Mrs. Flood may eventually grow to feel annoyed with the latest version of the Rani, as evidenced in their initial encounter during Doctor Who season 15. In this first meeting, Flood addresses her successor as “Ma’am” and immediately submits to her new form’s demands. This is unusual given that the Rani never shows submission to anyone, but even though Flood isn’t outright cowering to the new incarnation, there’s a clear sense of deference. The new Rani appears to have no regard for her older self, failing to acknowledge the efforts Flood has put in so far (or at least that’s the impression given).

In “Wish World,” things remain troubled as Flood continues his mischief, this time mocking the new Rani despite her preparing a sandwich for Conrad. It’s worth noting that Mrs. Flood demonstrates abilities beyond what is initially apparent in these scenes. She has the power to speak through the fourth wall, frighten elderly individuals with a single remark, and move freely across time and space (though it’s uncertain whether she possesses a TARDIS or not).

It’s possible that Mrs. Flood, being a descendant of the second-generation Rani (played by Kate O’Mara), has a distinct personality compared to previous versions, which may explain why Archie Panjabi’s Rani looks down on her. Given this background and their strained relationship, it seems likely that Mrs. Flood will act out in some way, perhaps in “The Reality War.” However, her intentions remain unclear at this point.

Befriending Ruby & Belinda May Still Be In Mrs. Flood’s Future

Maybe Mrs. Flood’s Timeline Isn’t What We Think It Is

In my opinion, I’m inclined to think that Mrs. Flood’s sequence of events unfolds differently than what viewers see in seasons 14 and 15. It can be quite confusing, especially given how elusive Mrs. Flood is as a character, but it seems plausible that the character portrayed in “The Interstellar Song Contest” and “Wish World” hasn’t yet become Belinda or Ruby’s neighbor. There appears to be a link between the Rani and Ruby Sunday on “Doctor Who,” with some theories proposing that the Time Lady might have been the one who left the companion as a baby at the church steps.

In the narratives of Ruby and Belinda, infants play significant roles: Ruby’s backstory, the Fifteenth Doctor’s recollection of Belinda as an infant, Captain Poppy, and now the latest addition to the Pantheon Gods in “Doctor Who”, Desidirium, a god associated with wishes. We still don’t fully understand Desidirium’s significance, however, the episode “Wish World” hints that only Mrs. Flood seems concerned about the baby. But what could be the reason behind this?

It’s possible there is a connection between Mrs. Flood and the children, given her reference to the new Rani as her offspring by stating she “came from her womb.” If the new Rani oversteps boundaries and the Doctor needs to stop her destructive fury and save Earth on May 24, 2025, Mrs. Flood might travel back in time. By doing so, she can arrange for the Doctor to encounter both Ruby and Belinda beforehand. This way, they will be present during the “Wish World” storyline and the upcoming episode titled “The Reality War,” helping the Time Lord as needed.

Mrs. Flood Vs. The Rani Would Mirror Missy Turning Against John Simm’s Master

Incarnations Of The Same Time Lord Fighting Each Other Famously Don’t End Well

It’s not unheard of for a Time Lord to act against their own past or future in the world of Doctor Who. For instance, during the Twelfth Doctor’s era, the character Missy went against her previous self’s desires. At the end of “World Enough and Time” and in “The Doctor Falls,” they initially teamed up, but eventually, Missy broke this alliance by deciding to return for the Doctor, whom she had left behind.

Incarnations of The Rani in Doctor Who
Actor Years As The Character
Kate O’Mara 1985, 1987, & 1993
Anita Dobson 2023–Present
Archie Panjabi 2025–Present

As a devoted cinema-goer and a Doctor Who enthusiast, I can’t help but ponder over the potential outcomes for the characters Rani and Mrs. Flood. Could their storylines mirror that of Missy and the Saxon Master? In the world of Doctor Who, when Missy, once an ally, chose to turn against the Doctor, she ended up stabbing him. The Master retaliated with his laser screwdriver. However, the fate of Missy remains uncertain, leaving us wondering if she is indeed the last incarnation of the Master.

Taking a step back, I can’t help but wonder if the two Ranis won’t meet such a tragic end as a result of each other’s actions. It’s hard to envision a scenario where one taking revenge on the other would lead to a joyous resolution, especially within the darker, more dramatic landscape of Doctor Who.
