Will Ghost of Yotei Feature Multiplayer Mode? Find Out Now!

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement as Sucker Punch gears up for a comeback with the thrilling action-adventure title, Ghost of Yotei. Stepping into the shoes of a new protagonist named Atsu, we find ourselves in a world that’s over 300 years beyond the events of the widely acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima. If the trailer shown at September’s State of Play Showcase is any indication, this game promises to be as visually stunning as its predecessor, making it another potential blockbuster for the Sly Cooper and Infamous crew.

However, the question on everyone’s lips is whether we can expect a multiplayer-style gameplay experience akin to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends in this new installment. I sure hope so, as the cooperative multiplayer aspect was one of the highlights of the original game for me and many others. Fingers crossed that we’ll get to dive back into the world later this year!

Upon the highly successful debut of Ghost of Tsushima, developer Sucker Punch unveiled plans for a multiplayer mode later in the year. This led to the release of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which came out several months post-launch, and offered a shift from the original game’s playstyle. In this new multiplayer mode, teams of up to four players engage in fresh story missions, survival modes, and rivalry battles inspired by Japanese mythology. The gameplay mechanics from the single-player stealth and melee-focused experience were adapted for cooperative play, with four distinct classes: rōnin, assassin, hunter, and tank. For Sucker Punch, this was an innovative step, one that garnered favorable feedback from fans of Tsushima.

In Ghost of Yotei, since it takes place centuries later than its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, it will showcase cultural, political, and military advancements. Essentially, this means that the gameplay style in the original game may not carry over to the sequel. It’s a bit like having two sides to a coin when considering the multiplayer mode: some players might appreciate the more modern feel with the incorporation of firearms, while others may see it as an enhancement to the multiplayer experience they’re familiar with from the previous game.

At present, Sucker Punch Productions has not officially announced if the Legends multiplayer mode will be integrated into Ghost of Yotei. However, given their previous interest in creating cooperative experiences and the success of the Legends game, which is also getting an anime series on Crunchyroll, it seems unlikely that they would abandon the idea of a multiplayer feature for Ghost of Yotei. Instead, it may be more fitting to bring this mode into the next generation of gaming.
