As a longtime fan of reality TV and a pop culture enthusiast with over two decades of experience in media consumption, I’m thrilled to see some of my favorite shows getting renewed for new seasons. The return of “The Masked Singer” on Fox brings me immense joy, as the guessing game and unmasking process never fails to entertain and surprise me.
Kim Cattrall is setting the record straight about rumors of a return to And Just Like That.
The actress refuted rumors that she would be returning as Samantha Jones in the third season of “Sex and the City” revival on Max.
“Aw that’s so kind,” Kim wrote on X, formerly Twitter, July 21, “but I’m not.”
A 67-year-old actor initially portrayed her iconic role on “Sex and the City,” reappeared in two movies, and made a lone appearance as Samantha in season two of “And Just Like That” the previous year. Her unexpected re-emergence in the “Sex and the City” world took place following decades of reported friction with the show’s main actress, Sarah Jessica Parker.
Based on the acclaimed performance she gave in the second season, it’s commonly assumed that Cattrall has agreed to return as Samantha Jones for the next installment of the sequel, which is now being filmed in New York City.
Last year, Kim made it clear that she wouldn’t be rejoining “And Just Like That” past her season two guest role. In an interview on the “Today” show in June 2023, she emphasized, “I’ve reached my limit here.”
Alternatively, Kim is deeply connected to the character of Samantha. She shared, “I find it hard to imagine parting ways with her. She holds a special place in my heart, just like many other characters I’ve played. The emotions I experience while portraying her and the connection we’ve built are something I cherish deeply.”
Max shared on Instagram in May that the production of “And Just Like That” was back in swing. Many fans reacted, suggesting to bring back the character of Samantha and received numerous likes as a result.
As a longtime fan of “Sex and the City,” I was beyond excited when HBO announced the return of “And Just Like That” for a third season. However, the news that Sara Ramirez and Karen Pittman, who brought Che Diaz and Professor Nya Wallace to life so brilliantly in the first two seasons, would not be returning left me feeling disappointed. I had grown fond of their characters and was looking forward to seeing more of them.
