Will Linda die in EastEnders or is it another Carter? All the theories

As an ardent EastEnders fan who has followed the Carters through thick and thin for decades, I can’t help but feel a knot of worry tightening in my chest when I see images of funerals involving the Carter clan. The absence of Linda, our beloved Linda, has set off alarm bells that are hard to ignore.

Among EastEnders viewers, including us, there was a significant stir when photos from set suggested that one of the show’s dearly cherished characters might be written out by the BBC soap in the near future.

According to pictures published by The Sun, multiple members of the Carter family attended a funeral, including characters Lee, portrayed by Danny Hatchard, and Nancy, played by Maddy Hill, who made a special appearance for the event.

As they returned, there was a noticeable void – Linda (played by Kellie Bright) was missing. Clues in the visuals stirred our suspicions that the troubled L may have been the person being mourned at the church; however, it seems there could be more to this than what initially appears.

Is Linda set to die, or might another member of her clan lose their life instead?

Read on as we delve into all the possibilities.

Who will die in EastEnders?

Linda Carter

It’s worth noting that out of all the characters introduced thus far, Linda appears to be the one who is most likely to face a tragic end, given what we’ve learned so far.

Besides Nancy and Lee, Linda’s mother Elaine Peacock (played by Harriet Thorpe), her younger son Johnny Carter (portrayed by Charlie Suff), and her close friend Sharon Watts (performed by Letitia Dean) are all present as well.

Nancy was observed donning a set of pink flamingo earrings, as flamingos were a distinctive element in Linda’s personal fashion.

Additionally, Elaine can be spotted accessorizing with pink earrings and sporting pink-painted fingernails. Notably, this color aligns with Linda’s preferences, as she is renowned for her affinity for pink, which became a defining characteristic of her in the narrative of The Six.

Additionally, there’s evidence of Johnny’s excessive drinking throughout the scenes. After enduring several months of attempting to prevent her mother’s alcohol relapse, it could be that her passing triggers a similar downward spiral for him.

Linda may sadly meet a grim fate due to her addiction, possibly even losing her life, or she might become a victim of retaliation because of the murder she committed against Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters). This act has recently come to light for his sister Bernie (Clair Norris).

Bernie has already attacked Linda once, but could she decide to finish the job? Let’s hope not!

Mick Carter

Mick disappeared at sea over Christmas 2022 and, sadly, his body was never recovered. However, authorities eventually declared him deceased, and the community paid their respects to him in mourning.

Could it be that family acquaintance Callum Highway (Tony Clay), being quite close to Mick, might be showing his condolences, if Mick’s body is found in the water? This could account for the reappearances of Lee and Nancy, who greatly admired their father.

It’s possible that Linda was absent from the funeral photos due to her difficulty in bidding farewell to her beloved partner, someone she considered her soulmate.

However, it’s possible that EastEnders is employing a decoy, intentionally keeping the character out of sight for public filming, thereby creating suspense and uncertainty about their whereabouts.

It’s important to acknowledge that we desperately hope Mick isn’t deceased, but it’s also crucial to consider the fact that there’s a high likelihood he might be.

Danny Dyer playfully suggested that the soap should reintroduce his character, Mick, and while his suggestion may have been humorously intended, he did not rule out the possibility of a return for Mick in the future.

However, there’s a chance that the enigma surrounding Mick’s disappearance might soon be unveiled in a deeply sorrowful manner.

Shirley Carter

Since Mick vanished, Shirley (Linda Henry), known for her memorable quips and grumpy expressions, has been absent, and we’ve all dearly missed her distinctive wit and stern visage.

Could EastEnders potentially shock its audience once more by suggesting that Shirl has passed away off-screen, if there’s still no word about her coming back?

It’s possible that Elaine’s argument with Nancy might have been triggered by an insensitive remark she made about Shirley, given their past strained relationship. Both Nancy and Lee shared a bond with their late aunt Shirley as well.

We’re not eager to make this theory a reality – it pains us deeply to imagine Shirl, Mick, or Linda being gone forever.

If it’s hard to accept Shirley might be gone, maybe she can follow in the footsteps of Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) and Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth), who came back to life after being ‘dead’ on screen!

Aunt Babe Smith

In the year 2017, shrewd Aunt Babe (portrayed by Annette Badland) was evicted from The Queen Vic. She departed following a vengeful remark, an incident that you can revisit on BBC iPlayer in the episode dated 9th February 2017.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but ponder: Since the pub’s fortunes seemed to turn sour, and there’s been no talk of Babe lately – could it be that the Carters would join forces to mourn the loss of their notoriously unsavory friend, Babe?

Back then, Elaine hardly got along with Babe at all, which might lead us to think she’d make a sharp remark or two about her. However, it seems Nancy and Johnny aren’t feeling the same way emotionally, so perhaps our interpretation needs some adjustment.

Still, we like the idea of the Carters being reunited for the cause, perhaps with a hilarious posthumous reading from Babe, in the style of Norris Cole’s (Malcolm Hebden) memorial from Coronation Street!

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
