One intriguing notion concerning EastEnders’ 40th anniversary play suggests a significant shift in the soap’s terrain for good, should it prove accurate.
I’m pondering over the notion that Martin Fowler, portrayed by James Bye, might tragically perish in the blast at The Queen Vic.
Martin finds himself caught in a difficult predicament, having feelings for both his former spouses, Ruby Allen (portrayed by Louisa Lytton) and Stacey Slater (played by Lacey Turner. In the upcoming crucial days, Stacey may decide to declare her affection.)
Yet, as certain hints were causing concern, it became necessary for us to dig out our detective caps and conduct an investigation on our own.
As there’s no other task remaining except observing what transpires next, let’s examine all the hints that suggest Martin might be on the verge of a tragic conclusion…
Will Martin Fowler die during EastEnders’ 40th anniversary? All the clues and theories
Extra screentime

Recently, I’ve noticed Martin getting a lot of screen time, and it’s hard not to be thrilled about it. But, could this surge in appearances be hinting that his character’s storyline might be wrapping up for good?
For several months now, Martin has found himself at the heart of various dramas: from uncovering he fathered another child, navigating a love triangle with Ruby and Stacey, worrying about his former spouse Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy), and tirelessly fighting to save the market. This comes after a relatively calm period earlier on.
Is it possible that the BBC soap is providing him with an excessive amount of screen time as a prelude to an unexpected departure?
Legacy mentions

It was an absolute pleasure to come across footage from Martin’s father, Arthur Fowler (Bill Treacher), appearing on a TV game show in the 1980s, and as an added treat, his mother Pauline (Wendy Richard) made an appearance as well.
Apart from observing Martin sitting contemplatively at Arthur’s bench in Albert Square gardens, we’ve noticed him reminding Ian Beale, his careless cousin (played by Adam Woodyatt), of the significance of the fruit and veg stall in the market, just before Ruby purchased it for Martin to assume control.
It seems like this transition could be hinting at an even larger transformation ahead, as the familiar figure of Martin, a family man, appears to take his final breath in the square where he spent his childhood.
Parallels as the first baby born in EastEnders

Martin made his grand entrance as the newest addition to the television series, surprising Pauline and Arthur when they learned they were expecting their third child. This exciting news came many years following the arrival of their two other children, Mark (David Scarboro, Todd Carty) and Michelle (Susan Tully, Jenna Russell).
It could be strikingly symbolic for EastEnders to commemorate its 40th anniversary by writing off Martin, forty years after the day when Pauline discovered she was carrying him in her womb.
Early milestone birthday celebration
Recall an instance where Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) and the market vendors unintentionally congratulated Martin on his 40th birthday, although he was actually turning 39?
It takes several months to develop soap storylines, and it makes us ponder if Martin’s 40th birthday was a unique occasion that he might not have reached at all. Is there a chance he won’t make it to this significant age?
As early as last year, X user @realseanslater speculated on this very idea!
Repeating history for lovesick Stacey Slater

In 2010, Stacey’s first husband Bradley Branning (played by Charlie Clements) tragically fell from the roof of The Vic. This incident occurred on the soap opera’s 25th anniversary and during a live episode.
Might EastEnders once more shatter Stacey’s heart by separating her and Martin, exactly 15 years after the tragic death of Bradley right before her eyes?
Despite our hopes that it might not happen, there’s a good chance we could witness Star Turner giving yet another remarkable performance, portraying her character shedding tears for another broken heart on national television.
Death shots
After the market was successfully rescued, largely due to Martin’s tireless work, it transpired that Honey and others, including Shrimpy (portrayed by Ben Champniss), had been secretly raising a toast to him with Death Throes.
This was a rather ominous line that, of course, could mean absolutely nothing!
However, as @juliastheme mentioned in their post on X, we can’t help but wonder if the ominously titled scenes might have been a hint towards Martin’s possible downfall later in the story.
Impactful soap death
To create the most significant effect as per the conventions of the genre, a beloved and widely admired character should meet an untimely end.
It’s clear that Martin leaving EastEnders will transform the series in a significant way, impacting a large number of the Walford residents as they currently exist.
Across the entire community, there would be a massive void left upon departure from Stacey and Ruby, to Ian, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), and their godmother Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth).
Could Martin die as the ultimate saviour?

In a potential scenario, if Martin finds himself in a situation where he must pick one between Stacey and Ruby during a rescue operation due to his affection for both of them, what would happen?
Martin might end up sacrificing his own life, yet securing the love of a woman who means the world to him (it seems Stacey is the one).
Cue all the tears!
Is it possible that Martin might pass away in the upcoming significant episodes of EastEnders? Only time will tell…
