Will Nebula Return? Karen Gillan Hints at MCU Comeback

At this stage, the Marvel Cinematic Universe operates smoothly, consistently delivering fresh content to cinemas and streaming platforms via a Disney+ subscription. Fans who have followed the Marvel films sequentially for years hold Guardians of the Galaxy in high regard as a beloved franchise. Following the conclusion of Guardians 3, fans are eagerly speculating about whether or not the team might appear in future Marvel movies. Recently, actress Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula, has shared some insights on this possibility.

In the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy, the diverse band of intergalactic superheroes found a satisfying conclusion, yet several members parted ways. Nebula and Drax opted to nurture the children they saved on Knowhere, leaving open the possibility that we may not encounter them again in future episodes. During an interview with MovieWeb, the former Doctor Who star was queried about this, responding:

Working within the Marvel universe is an absolute blast, and as for what lies ahead, I can’t reveal any details just yet. As they always say, “never say never.

What a mysterious hint! It doesn’t appear that Nebula has any future roles planned, but Gillan seems open to reprising her role as the Blue Meanie. I hope the Marvel Studios team will come up with a reason to bring her back since she’s one of my favorite characters in the MCU.

On Disney+, you can now stream Karen Gillan’s Marvel Cinematic Universe tenure. The platform offers an ad-supported plan starting at $9.99 per month. For an ad-free experience, the cost is $15.99 a month or enjoy a 16% discount by pre-paying $159.99 for a year’s subscription. Check it out now!

It’s plausible that Gillan might not reprise her role as Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) due to some potential challenges. Firstly, James Gunn, who has been instrumental in shaping her character, is now a co-CEO at DC Studios and his contract with Marvel ended with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Given his busy schedule, it’s unlikely he will have time to create another cosmic storyline for the MCU. This could mean that Gillan might need to work with a new director in the future. It remains uncertain if she would be interested in continuing her role in the MCU without Gunn’s involvement.

In summary, while it was hinted that Star-Lord would reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point, there was no definite confirmation for the rest of the Guardians team. Dave Bautista required a respite from Drax’s makeup application, and I suppose Gamora (Zoe Saldana) might feel similarly due to her extensive makeup and prosthetics work spanning over a decade to create Nebula.

As I write this tale, no Guardians have been officially announced as part of the cast for Avengers: Doomsday. This includes Chris Pratt, who humorously hinted at not having a seat during the live stream announcement. Given that Star-Lord might be absent, it seems logical to infer that Nebula and the rest of their team may also not be featured.

Absolutely, Marvel actors often maintain secrecy regarding the plotlines of their shared universe by telling fibs to the media. For instance, Andrew Garfield kept up a ruse for years before it was revealed he played Spider-Man in “No Way Home”.

Currently, you can stream Karen Gillan as Nebula on Disney+. Coming to theaters on July 25th, 2025 is The Fantastic Four: First Steps. I’ll continue to cross my fingers in hopes that we’ll see more of Nebula in future releases.
